I can’t fathom the fit at all. Why an 80mm stem with the 58r when according to the geo on the previous page it’s only 12mm longer in reach than my current bike. Which is comfy with a 110mm stem. I regret being bad at maths.

You have 35 mm of spacers on your current bike I think? Reach is at top of headtube, so given headtube angle, adding spacers for a given stem length moves the bars towards you. Without info on your stem angle as well, it’s hard to give you the exact numbers.
The geometry there is saying 15 mm of spacers and and 80 mm stem would put you in the same position relative to your saddle as your current set up.

Ah I get it now. That makes sense. Thank you.
Stem angle on current bike is -7
So a 56r would require a big spacer tower (more than 35mm)? Or just 35mm with a 100mm stem…? Therefore being almost exactly the same in appearance to the Genesis

That’s pretty much what it says above on the fit guide from. Depends how finickity you are on fit and what you are trying to achieve from the bike!
Spacers can always be removed…whereas a tall headtube can’t be chopped down!

For all the folks doubtless thrilled by this story - looks like a 58r might be the better choice by the below. Nice of Fairlight to bear with the questions.

stop worrying about reach, in 6 months you might be heavier, less flexible and it will be "wrong"

Have a second kid due soon so this would probably just hang on the wall anyway

Re PDW chat - I fitted 45mm pdw over 32mm tyres on my strael 2.0 no issue. I drilled the rear to fit the bridge directly.
I couldn’t see an answer for fit on 2.0 online - incase anyone else was wondering!

That looks really great 👌

Hours deliberating, working on a spreadsheet, getting all my calculations in there. Ordering the bike.
Thanks to dog I’ve ridden it maybe 100km in 9 months.

I'm tempted by the Strael now as I actually compared the 51r to my caad10 and the measurements arent that far off.
Reach is 1-1.5cm more which can be sorted with stem.
The seatutube is 51 C-T whereas my caad10 is 50.5 C-T. Seatube/ amount of seatpost showing mostly being just an aesthetic issue..
Only issue is Ultegra no longer exists as an option which would have been perfect :( Now its either more £££ for a heavier electronic Ultegra or more ££ for also heavier electronic 105.
Decisions..

Email and ask? Or just buy the frame?
-

I've already asked. They sold out of Ultegra and said Shimano have discontinued mechanical groupsets and so wont be getting any more in stock. I havnt been keeping up to date with bike news but that seems insane to me.
Im buying through cycle to work so it makes more sense to buy the full bike.

Anyone know which CK inset headset fits an original Strael? Thinking the blue factory finds i7 here https://chrisking.com/collections/factory-finds would be a good colour match for the logos if it's the right one!

Assuming the fork has a 1.5" taper, that's the correct one

Built up a Holt as a viable alternative to seatpacks and massive bar bags. Much happy.

Fairlight managed to find some more Ultegra mechanical which is great news for my order, saving £500 while upgrading to CK and hope wheelset

Love my Secan - it excels in bikepacking mode!

It’s 110mm on the Genesis. Dunno why this is so hard to work out!
