A bit OT, hope no-one minds...

I have an extended trip coming up 🎉✈️⛰️🌊🤙 etc.

I'd like to document it somewhere online, mostly for me but one or two other people have said they'd like to follow along.

Any recommendations for blogging platforms to look at? Main requirement is pages with simple formatting and the ability to embed photos. A map-based index of entries would be 👌 Self hosted or SaaS is fine.

I checked out the usual suspects, WordPress, Wix, SimpleSite etc. but they look way over-complicated and changing anything on a site seems to require a laptop / PC. I'm only taking an Android phone with me and, from what I've read, I don't think South / Central American countries tend to have lots of internet cafés dotted around. 🤔

Any recommendations much appreciated!

Just out of curiosity did you manage to find any?

I was thinking about a microblog too for similar purposes and knowing how fiddly WP can get on the go, wanted to avoid. 🏴‍☠️

We went with travellerspoint.com which was ok. Shame the trip itself ended in disaster 🙄

Formatting Help

Don't worry about formatting, just type in the text and we'll take care of making sense of it. We will auto-convert links, and if you put asterisks around words we will make them bold.

Tips:

Create headers by underlining text with ==== or ----

To *italicise* text put one asterisk each side of the word

To **bold** text put two asterisks each side of the word

Embed images by entering:

That's the hard one: exclamation, square brackets and then the URL to the image in brackets.

For syntax highlighting, surround the code block with three backticks:

```
Just like Github, a blank line must precede a code block.
