The scarring is coming from the peak of the scooped seat tube directly opposite the clamp slot. The bolt was nipped up when i went to open it for the first time but not that tight. The slot still looks parallel and its quite long with the bolt at the very top. I did leave a post in overnight hoping that may open it up a bit but it came out this morning with as much difficulty as it went in. I'll get proper calipers on it at the weekend so that'll show if it is pinched. I say it looks parallel but i can't eyeball 1/5 of a mm.

Okay , I hear what you saying, could be an easy fix then with some soft jawed pliers or a circular file at that point , just got the sort of stress you need on such a purchase .

Before you start with a drill, why not try with come wire wool on a stick or a big bottle brush ? Then put some lithium grease on the Alu seatpost and see if it still marks the post when you take it out again.

Thanks I've been reading up on it and apparently it's a common problem just not with brand new Colnagos. I am going to try a narrow metal brush first. Lithium grease on the post was what helped me get the alloy on in in the first place it made a massive difference. At least the new seatpost is going to look nice once i can get it in

A greased aluminium post went in tight but no more scarring on removal so i tried dry the carbon post after a degrease. It went in a bit and was tight but no scratches. So hopefully a really quick polish with the tool and I'll be ok

I'm not picking up the polishing tool until the weekend so in the meantime I'm trying to clean up the BB threads and after a bit of a soak with GT85 they are looking better. There's certainly plenty coming off.

I had similar issues with my Dream, altho that was 5 years old when I bought it. As it wasn't new and the paint was already failing, I just got aggressive with it.
Regarding Maestro, I'd be pretty certain that he'd tell you eff off, seeing as you didn't buy the frame from them.

I'm getting there with it slowly. I've heard the guy from maestro is a friendly chap 😂 but fortunately my frame has nothing to do with him. Slane cycles, Windwave and Colnago. Windwave have been filled in and agree it's unacceptable. I was forwarded the return email from Windwave saying that and now its just Slane speaking to Colnago. Slane have been great I've had daily emails from them saying we're on it still waiting to hear from Colnago. It's a warranty job 100% if i was to pursue it or possibly even a refund though my credit card company. But that would leave me without a frame for months or without one at all so just going to sort it myself whatever it takes and hopefully have this on the road within the next couple of weeks 🤞

Nice it's meant to be good stuff what we're the fumes like? The traditional linseed spray seems hard to find now. I've got some of that on order but just given it some GT85 in the meantime as that it what i was using to help remove the corrosion anyway. The tight post does seem to be a thing. I saw a really nice build video and the guy looked to have to really twist the new post in on a new frame. Mine was made worse by the corrosion but hoping to sort it over to weekend as I've got a bit more time🤞 then once my spray arrives do that the finish the build.
1:15 for the seatpost but I expect you'll watch the full video as this one's lovely. I find this video really relaxing but me building mine so far has involved a lot more swearing.

I saw that seatpost going in looked hard work. But did i see that right 7.2kg i am over by 1.3kg more but hardly Noticeable on a club ride.

Yeah 7.2 without pedals but 2 heavy cages. I'm giving up 450g on the wheels which are still light but i have one super light bottle cage. Similar Record/super groupset. Same stem with a slightly heavier post but slightly lighter bars and a similarly crazy light saddle. That frame looks more like a 56 as well so I'm guessing 7.8 with pedals for mine 🤞

Heres my without cages because i just Cavity wax the tubes 8.5kg

Looking good! I’m waiting to hear back from Colnago about the seat tube issue before I go more vigorous with treatment. A bit of sanding improved it a bit. Will do more tomorrow plus chop some of seatpost (as is definitely too long).
But mine will be similar to your, have same wheels, but going silver finishing kit & record/super record groupset.
Just pissed that can’t just crack on with the build.
The thread build is gonna be great too. Love the wheels, and the paint job is amazing (nearly has me doubting my choice) -

3 goes with GT85 and a wire brush and my post went in ok but was a bit too tight still with the carbon paste so I'm hoping a little polish will be enough to finish the job. When i removed the dry post it was totally mark free though which was good. Hope yours is going ok. This has taken ages but at least i know I'm not going to damage anything

Just use grease rather than the paste. I doubt you'll have trouble with slipping.

Have managed to get seatpost in (after chopping bit of excess length). Will leave in overnight then treat frame internally before starting build proper.
Will still complain about the frame to shop/Colnago!
Will leave off any updates about my frame from here on in.
Looking forward to seeing your build progress. Hopefully smoother from hereon in! -

I did think it wouldn't slip actually and I've not even tightened the clamp yet so a little grease rather than just dry although there will be cavity wax residue in there. I don't know how that dries shall i degrease the top 4 inches and the light grease will stop sticking and protect that bit of the seat tube from corrosion? Sorry i don't know metal

• #321
Sounds like your getting there as well 🤞Just post a pic once it's fully built then

• #322
The wax spray is literally wax suspended in a solvent which evaporates leaving a solid wax coating inside the tubes so it will leave the tube in a coating of wax. You probably don't need to degrease it but you may need a few goes in and out with an alloy post to clear it

Right were rolling. One last polish with a tool today on the seat tube today. It's a bit tight but it goes in and out with a firm twist but i did put a thin layer of carbon paste in the end. The frame is treated. Set up a bit and apart from the hoods being 1cm lower than what i usually ride the fit is good. I've got some 1in spacers in the post so will leave at least 1cm of extra steerer on first cut. I might be able to get this finished this week 🤞

Dammit, it’s what I already use. Trying to find something in production.
