Well I don’t agree with gambling.

I hope not but probably. Or he'll fall behind by week two and climb off at some point early in week three

Take. If grand tours are going to start with TTs, they should start on a Friday, followed by a sprint stage and a punchy uphill finish stage over the weekend.
TTs are fine for working days but have no place on a full day's available viewing. -

This. Although I didn't know it until you said it.

Agreed. I’ve been too busy to pay attention to any of the build up but was looking forward to watching a sprint build up or something today. Checking the listings to see it’s a TT was a let down. I’ll just read about the winner on twitter later then. Cheers Giro!

I see the point about TTs, but I've come to like them, if the commentators are informed then it gives a lot of riders some spotlight and a chance to hear about their whole season, progress etc. I guess that isn't everyone's cup of tea.
Whilst the first sprint stage of a grand tour is bound to be tense, for true fans these don't make for good all day viewing 😄 unless the parcours is not flat.

Sean 'bonification' Kelly is sounding positively chirpy.

Kelly is always at his best when he's not with Kirby.

Then again, everyone and everything is better without Kirby.

• #44443
don't know if I've seen that before in a TT stage - someone caught and passed by the rider after them, but then counterattacks and drops them to finish in starting order. no mechanical or crash for either

He was shamed into putting a bit more effort in.

It's all kicking off in Spain. Race leader Vollering dropped in crosswinds and nearly 2 mins behind Van Vleuten and four others, with 40 kms to go.
