Is there a lot of sound reflection off those surfaces?

Whole ceiling is treated, class A absorption whatever that means. Sounds good just now, with a notch less treble on the Tannoy controls. Sofa, rug and curtains among other things to go in so should be pretty tame.

What's the long shallow box next to the TT?

Preamp TC-754 , very much the weak link in the system (along with the cobbled together Thorens), but it does what I want so struggle to justify £500 on something else.
