Anyone with turntables want an unplayed "15 years of Drumcode", signed by Ben Sims?
https://www.discogs.com/release/3304331-Various-15-Years-Of-DrumcodeI'm unlikely to ever buy decks again so this is kinda going to waste. Beer me and you can haz.

Listening to the Surgeon album in greater detail, I'm really confused with it. It's so disconnected, like the weird atmosphere at the start of Oak Bank just stops and some other kind of melodic line starts out of nowhere. Then a bassline starts over the top of that. Then a Detroit style pad comes in suddenly! It's a bit all over the place.
A few tracks are very very samey too š¤
Not sure TBH

Oak Bank must be a reference to Coil's house in Weston Super Mare where they wrote albums like Musick To Play In The Dark, I presume he's trying to conjure a similar ethereal vibe to their music at the start of the track.

Gotcha thanks

Koolaid wearing off maybe. Never seen the attraction with Surgeon, don't hate him but it's always seemed disorganised to me.
Realised I should probably rephrase that. Perhaps you are no longer as interested in his work, I think he's been drifting a bit from his earlier stuff.

I've seen it said that he's a decent DJ but a so so producer. Maybe I'm inclined to agree

So many DJ's to choose from these days, not sure I've heard a set of his outside of the live jams with other people which were ok. There's a video of him talking through his live rig and I found him quite uninspiring to listen to. Some people are like that though, I would probably get bored listening to myself pretty fast!

I think the thing to be said about Surgeon is that he doesn't stand still or play it easy like a lot of his contemporaries have. These days it's easy to sound very polished and for the sound design to take over. The impression I get is that he doesn't have any interest in being that kind of a producer because for him the process is the most interesting part, which probably leads to more varied results than his earlier work. Rather than play it safe he always tries to challenge himself with his setup and work within its limitations and also to incorporate more experimental ideas or techniques into his tekno work. Originally it was more ideas from other composers, now it seems to be more from his own work like The Transcendence Orchestra.

Funny, I could listen to him speak about his setup for hours, just not listen to him play with it so much...

Probably agree with this. I admire what he's trying to do, it doesn't always land for me though

I liked the Raw Trax stuff he released a few years ago. There were a couple of tracks on his last album too. But mostly I'm a bit ambivalent

That was likely, followed by Enrico and then veering over to... I dunno Kevin, MaW or Lobster? Probably Kevin Saunderson.
Sat seems like I'll just be at Stage 1 all day, maybe shooting over to see Kobosil and Speedy J/Steve Rachmad

Octave One live were awesome last weekend.
Jeff Mills never disappoints.
Richie Hawtin is brilliant.Carl, Kevin and MaW also, especially over Charlotte de Witte

The burden Bros, dimitry, scruff, papa Sven, scruff, soul clap, monsters at work. Have seen Carl be terrible and Kevin be dull too often.
Jeroen Verheij, Jeff, Schwarz, Richie, Speedy and Steve, Mano Le Tough

One of the most banging tunes i have came across. Hard spaced out vibes throughout.. The track switches up like mad around 8:40 and becomes truly peak track!
Maybe a bit fast for many, but a classic british techno track from a producer that died way too young. Enjoy!
