• Anyone had velo sambas long enough to share their thoughts on them?

  • I love a white shoe. I think it is because I now live near Essex.

I used to buy DZRs but they are SO expensive and the soles used too snap across the ball of the foot.

I currently have Giro Rumbles and am pretty happy with them but they are getting a bit long in the tooth.

Any good suggestions for a white casual SPD shoe for less than £100?

  • big fella, long time no speak, I will pm you seperately about cheese, if you're still in the cheese game.
I have no thoughts on white casual spd shoes, two only that spring to mind are these Quoc Pham's which are kinda chunky (possibly ugly, I don't know yet), and more of an off white, but they are £150, possibility if you like them, that you could get them for less in sale. Bear in mind, I was out on Quoc Pham's as the last two pairs after a decent run, had the sole split like your DZR's.

    or these Fizik Terra Ergolace.

Which also come in an offwhite. I've got the camo coloured version, but think I brought a size too big, find it difficult to secure my foot in them, but they are nice enough.. They also do them in a very retro neon colourway, which makes me want to buy them again. Slightly cheaper at 129 Euros. I brought my last pairs f fizik via sigma sport sale and also sport pursuit, so you can get them cheaper.

  • Talk to me about the sizing of Five Tens. I sometimes see them in my local second hand listings for quite cheap.

  • Used them 3 days a week in mixed weather for about a 9 months, sill in great shape. Bit too stiff to be doing much more walking than just around the office but otherwise really good.

Circumstances changed so now they are gathering dust but I was really happy with them, had DZR shoots that fell apart in weeks so compared to those I was really happy

  • Velosamba x End, coming to a craft beer tap near you!

  • Hey Corny!

    Thanks for this.

The only thing I could find is these: https://chpt3.com/products/transit-cycling-shoe

But at £200 they can get to fuck.

  • In interested in the sambas, but they look well flexy, and also £200+??

  • Hey… they are pretty solid, like most of the Velosamba range (probably the same sole unit). Retail was £130. I got the white/green pair and the suede finish looks like it’ll immediately become filthy within about 6” of a bike chain…

  • Those look a bit air force one to me, and not even released yet! Shows the power of David Millar, that he can get riders to fork out £200 for a casual spd shoe. Expecting Rapha to jump on the band wagon any time soon.

  • OOOOOO!! I like those all white ones.... Just clicked buy on a pair.

    Thanks all.

  • Good stuff, perhaps we can compare the degree to which they stay boxfresh!

  • just a warning, I think those white ones are like a wierd shiny reflective white thing (its hard to explain). You can kindof see it in the main picture. I got the same ones a few months ago and had to send them back

  • Oh Lordy, they are the blimmin’ shiny ones. It’s subtle and I’m sure they’ll be filthy in no time so I’m going to keep them.
First initial try suggests that you could feel the cleat plate under the sole, though?

  • Late reply but to add to whats already said, yeah, over a year now and have done a couple of tours and some 200k rides on them. They've been great. I found them nicely stiff enough for riding, and as I've had them longer they've worn in and got really comfy to wear through the day. I don't usually wear cycling shoes much, so not much to compare them too on the bike, but definitely would recommend. You can feel the cleat walking on rough surfaces, clicks a bit on hard floors sometimes, but really not too bad. They fit true to size for me at a narrow-ish UK11 (I have the original non-vegan version)

  • My missus has just brought a pair of the white velosambas, she wanted the pink soled ones but they were out of stock. She’s just getting back on the bike after some time away and back into her twice weekly commute to west london, any thoughts she had on them will post up here.

My initial response to seeing them is that they look a bit long and low, I don’t mind the shiny slightly reflective material on the upper, reminds me of those iridescent paint jobs you used to see, cleat recess looks a bit shallow - can see/hear clear clicking when the sole wears down a bit from walking, they feel pretty stiff when you try to bend the sole.

  • I've been riding the white velosambas for about a week.
Shiny finish on white shoes doesn't show much.
Stiffer than I anticipated and feel good on the bike.
Cleat is more recessed that the Giro Rumbles, so no click-clack for me when walking around.
Comfy in the toe, too loose in the heal. I have to tie them up quite tight which can be sore on the top of my foot where they tie when I'm wearing them for hours in the office.
All in though, I am happy, and lots of people have complimented them and been surprised they are bike shoes.

  • Wasn't sure where to put this query?
But recently pulled the trigger on some fiziks overcurve Road shoes, they were the best fit for my wide feet, very happy with them,
But are the boa system suitable for fixed gear? The cords are very thin and will they rip/damage through the upper fabric with the upwards pressure?
Maybe I'll keep them just for the road bike, which would be a shame, because I'd like to use them as much as possible.

  • Ridden Boas fixed for years, never seen the sort of damage you're describing here.

  • Boa’s are fine on fixed. You shouldn’t have any problems. People have been riding boa’s on sidi’s fixed for years so you’ll be good

  • Good to hear, time to get the pedals on.
    Many thanks

  • was looking up some DZR shoes, https://dzrshoes.uk/
who also so happen to have a 50% end of season voucher code currently (END OF SEASON),
and saw these Ride Concepts Accomplice Clip Boa

from a company I've never heard of before Ride Concepts
They are a bit pricey, cheapest I can see them is for £120, but they look nice and clean..

  • RC has been around for a decent while. Make good MTB shoes.
