  • Digging on the play area in the back garden starts tomorrow. Digging down to 200mm, levelling with sand, membrane then 150mm of softwood chips.

Question I have is how to fix the playset (this thing). It comes with 30cm metal ground anchors which I can set into the earth but I don't just want to leave soil at the top level and dig a 'moat' around it that I fill with chips as the ground will shift with the weight.

Burying the thing by anchoring it 15cm into the ground will mean the base will rot in the chips if water can't shift and it'll also mean the slide will have to finish below ground level by the same amount.

I was thinking of using some treated sleepers (100mm high) to create a square underneath the frame. Anchor that to the ground then anchor the frame onto that. Worst case, I can replace the sleepers every few years if they rot.

    Any other ideas?

  • I have this coming next week for mini_com's birthday, with platform, without slide. I have a wellbeing day off work on Friday to build it. I will just be settling and levelling four of these to go under the feet. And probably treat the bases of each of the legs for good measure.

This is a really slick idea. Hats off.

For ours I dug, levelled with sand, Ecobases + gravel under each foot.

All the footings have remained dry. I worried about the wind as a savages gust rips up through our garden and side of the house. Especially in late summer. However, it's pretty protected and has stayed put.
