  • Boom. That looks great

  • Feels quick enough on the road, although not in my hands. Was worried about it being too offroady but is fine. Tyres are only 30s, would like bigger slicks, something like WTB Horizons but I think now discontinued. Terreno Zero is maybe an option.

  • Ramparts are available in 42s

  • Thanks!! Thought I should get round to posting something. Hope yours is getting there..sounds like people want more lilac out there!! @Chaley

  • Gravel King Slick seems to be most available.

  • Yup, available, cheapish, tanwall, but they hit a critical point then puncture everywhere. The Ramparts are expensive, especially in 38s. I should also say I'm too scared to go tubeless, so may not be ideal.

  • I was tubeless a phobic until I tired them for myself. Shhh, but I used to set them up in the shop all the time yet never rode them. Now I love them, but only on higher volume tyres. For the easiest set up go with Teravail, they work so well it’s crazy. They really are the gateway drug.
Oh and yes, yes to more light lilac!!

  • Looks good!
It's replacement is still a box of parts...

  • Any clever suggestions for routing a rear Dyno light on a LHT, is drilling the frame a silly idea?

  • Can’t comment on the drilling, but on my packrat I opted for some of these for the run along the top tube (nds obviously) and it worked ok. https://bike.shimano.com/en-EU/product/component/ultegra-r8050-di2/SM-EWC2.html

My brain then got the better of me and I decided to run it along the exposed brake cable along the top of the top tube, inside some heat shrink tube. This worked better, but was a faff and only open to you if you have an exposed cable to play with (rim or disc lht?).

  • If you want to run internal cables this looks like the way to do it IMO.
It’s a Surly, you could probably drill 1/2” holes in the frame and it would still be over built (this is not a derogatory comment) so a couple of tiny holes wouldn’t be an issue.

  • This is what I am wondering, it's massively overbuilt. What could a couple of small holes do.
I tried the cable tie route and it looked shocking!!

  • Took my Cross Check out for a little loop earlier today and rode a new section of bridleway which was perfect. Could've been in the mid-west if it wasn't for the Devon hedges either side!

  • Putting my Troll up for sale soon: f&f, headset, bb. Medium, eggplant purple. Will do a proper sales thread once I’ve given it a polish and taken some decent photos but thought I’d float it here if any Genuine Surly Fans might be interested.

  • @flash was searching for a used troll a couple months ago.

  • So finally got myself an over-hyped gaspipe boat anchor. Took it for a spin last night and I was giddy with how much fun this thing was. I love it.

Cockpit needs tweaking, despite me doing the maths first. I’m 5’10 and was nervous about getting a size 50 , but so glad I did - it feels weirdly long. Thanks to @yetidamo on that front and fielding my unsolicited questions. And thanks @efb for heroic efforts and patience on getting a wheelset to me. They’re great btw.

I’ll be messing around with different posts, stems and bars but it’s up and running at least. Got some 700c rims on the way. Now I just need a flappy gilet.

  • Looks great. Still miss mine. Bet its even better with that fork. The steel surly one rode nice enough but it was a bit of a boat anchor. Enjoy!

  • Sorry for the stupid question, but are you sure that's a 50, it looks larger.

    I'm 5'11 and ride a 56.

  • 100% tru story bro. (50’s and below have the sloping TT). Effective TT is 540 so their sizing system is misleading.

  • Sweet! Welcome aboard!!

  • This is sick! Great work.

  • Very good. The hype is real! What was the fork, Carbonda direct?

  • Cheers all.

@efb no didn’t go with carbonda in the end. Dunno if I was overthinking it but I managed to find one the exact length and offset to the original. It’s a winowsports fk609 off aliexpress. Was cheap but seems solid. Customer service was pretty good! Hopefully I won’t die.
Note the MS fork offset is different though for size 54 and below / 56 and above. (Credit user snoops).
