Getting rid of scrap metal (steel, specifically) - Am I being ridiculous in thinking that it's not something you'd expect to pay much for?
Given that people just drive around looking for it to chuck in the back of their vans.

You shouldn't have to pay for that. I mean you could take it yourself to a scrappys if you wanted.
I just leave metal out front, maybe with a sign saying "scrap" if it's not obvious. Never sat out for more than half a day.
