Yes, I use a Garmin to record normally. For skiing, Garmin (or Strava, can't remember at which point it happens) can automatically remove the chairlift data, I can't remember whether it works for bike too.

What mounting options do you have? ISCG? I've not felt or seen a need for a lower guide on modern bikes with a clutched derailleur and NW chainrings. Bashguard may make sense if you have a fancy crankset you want to protect.

I've had a OneUp upper guide, and currently a knock-off version of it; fitted and never thought about it again. It's only there as a failsafe, as already said clutch mechs and chainrings are doing most of the work these days

I think a bash guard would be a good idea, I previously had a OneUp combined bash and upper guide, but it broke the carbon ISCG tab on my carbon frame so I took it off (and had the frame repaired).

Which was, looking back on it probably user error for over tightening the upper guide, but I’d have preferred it if a little thought had gone into making that difficult to impossible to do - a much smaller bolt for e.g.

Anyway! I guess what I’m wondering is whether a lower guide is good for peace of mind, or would simply add friction when going up hill/along the flat, and therefore be more annoying than restful, if that makes sense.

I think the lower guide like is on the newer MRP Sxg wouldn't hurt, especially if you want a bashguard. Certainly no need for a roller that is in constant contact with the chain.

I’m about to get on a plane for 14 hours- what would be some good mountain biking videos to download before we push back?

My bars feel too wide and I want to cut them down, they are 750mm. Everyone tells me that isn’t very wide. I’m tall+skinny and use a 38cm bar on my road bike.

This is all new to me, is there a general rule for mtb bar width?

And before you cut; move your grips and brake levers in and try the different widths. Saves you buying a new bar because you cut them to narrow…

Anyone got tips for riding BPW in a fortnight? Will be hiring bikes, using the uplift and doing green/blue trails and wondering what conditions to dress for. ie. is it going to be sleeves regardless of the weather due to elevation/descending/etc.

It's not really high enough to make any meaningful temperature difference from the valley floor. You can spend a bit of time at the top but that's doing it wrong, really you want to be off the bus and hitting the trail immediately. You might have to some mid-trail stops if your group is inexperienced so it's worth having something that can block the wind.

Above 14-15 degrees I normally ride base layer/short sleeves.

Don’t forget that you’ll get pads with the hire bike I believe so there’ll keep your knees/elbows warm.

I’d suggest that you only do one green, the blues are a joy. Even give the red Vicious Valley a try

If it’s raining I’d say just use a cheap jacket. You’re using the uplift so you’ll not get the heat through climbing and there’s a fair to middling chance that you could have a little lie down and tear a good jacket.

It drains very well, if you time it that it hasn’t rain for a day or two before and doesn’t the day you’re there it’ll be running pretty dry.

Most likely moving to the lakes in June and my gf is preemptively eyeing up bigger bikes (currently she rides a 100mm hardtail). What lightweight trail bike should she buy? Maybe she needs a 'downcountry' bike?

The new Canyon Neuron 7 WMN on cycle-to-work seems hard to ignore, it's the alu version with XT kit and a Fox 34 grip for £2600. Anyone ridden one? Does @skinny ride a neuron?

I noticed the xs and s come with 27.5 wheels. Is this a dealbreaker? Or will it not matter?
