• Do you mean cunts?

  • Well it felt harsh to call them that, so I accepted the typo change.

With their welding torches, jigs, learned skills, and time.

  • Most importantly on this:
What jersey/shorts are you matching to the bike pls?

  • those height Serif markings are delightfully anti

  • Full retro bastard Mapei? I'd like the Le Col Colnago kit that's discontinued like BillyGoat has so I'll keep a look out for one of those. The new seatpost is even tighter than the one off my beater and I'd absolutely trash the fresh gloss lacquer trying to get it in at this stage but i managed to get the post from my wife's bike in a fair bit. I've tried three 27.2 posts and they're all different diameters. I'm going to leave this in for a bit in the hope it opens the clamping slot up a little. The first time i tried putting a post in the bolt had been tightened without a post in. Not loads but it wasn't loose so i thought that might have created a bit of a pinch. It doesn't look great though does it?

  • Better get the seattube reamed at 27,2 before doing anything else!!!

  • No but you can just borrow my reamer if you want

  • Thanks for the offer but I'm down in Brighton and the father in law has already knocked me up a tool to use with a low speed drill. I'll report back at the weekend 🤞I've got this with a tight seat tube and a Bianchi with a seat tube that isn't round on the inside that can be slippy and I've got one and had two other open mould Chinese frames that have had zero issues. Small sample size i know but so far I'm not that impressed with this famous Italian craftsmanship. It's almost like you just paying a massive premium for a name and a fancy paint job. Oh hang on 🤦🏻‍♂️

  • I emailed the shop yesterday about the issues with this frame with photos and got a very quick reply saying it isn't right. They then forwarded me their response from Windwave who said this is unacceptable and have raised it with Colnago and will let me know their response. When i email the shop i did say this is just feedback and I'm not trying to pursue warranty as that would take ages and i can do this myself although i really shouldn't have to on a frame that cost this much. Slane and Windwaves responses we're very quick though and they are talking this very seriously. @Alanbt any news on yours?

  • I don't want to be negative because this is already disappointing enough and it's a great looking frame, but I've heard things about the chrome being of bad quality on these frame and rust on the forks, better keep an eye on that and maybe treat it somehow before.

  • A bit disappointment with the response from the shop to date. Said they sold lots of frames and not had similar issues.
I’ve escalated with them and said I’m not happy with the frame as delivered. They are waiting for response from Colnago on it.

  • Maybe edit that picture of the frame box as it has your name, address and postcode on it?
hopefully you'll get the teething probs sorted soon

  • 27.0 for the win?

  • I've just spent £140 on a shiny new Colnago seatpost I'd like to use it and i want to get rid of any corrosion and treat the frame. Hopefully cleaning it up should leave me with 27.2. The tube shouldn't be undersized but I'm going to measure the tube and post before I start doing anything.

  • Cheers edited and removed there was 2

  • Good luck and Windwave didn't sound happy so hopefully they'll have some clout with Colnago but ultimately its what they decide to do about it.
    This is from Windwave

  • There lower head tube lug isn't chromed perfectly it has a little cloudy patch on the side and a bit that's either been under chromed or over lined so I'll keep an eye on it. I'll try to look afternoon the chrome as much as I can and this will hopefully never see rain.

  • Please don't try and ream it yourself with a drill and a homemade reamer. That has disaster written all over it.

  • It's not actually a reamer it be more like a polisher. It'll be like core attached to a drill bit with emery cloth fins. I'm using a low speed drill. I don't need to remove metal as the tube ID is 27.2 just remove the corrosion and make the tube clean and smooth again. When i removed the cheap seatpost yesterday i had to twist it a bit and it left a deep zig zag scratch on the post so something is sticking out a bit although i can't feel it on with my finger. I'm going to be so cautious a few seconds sanding then try seatpost and repeat until it fits as it should. I'll spend a whole day if i have to. It might not take much as even . 1 or. 2 of a mm corrosion build up can be enough to stop a post going in and out. I'd definitely say I'm polishing more than reaming. If after a bit of time it becomes apparent i need any more and any filing or actual reaming is required I'll be straight in touch with Jon Chickens for a pro job.

  • But that way you'll remove material all around while you probably only need some deburring by the sound of it? A reamer only removes material that's 'sticking out'

  • It must need a little bit removing all the way round as the corrosion is all the way round making it tight but the bit sticking out causing the scarring on the post. I was hoping if i can find that bit and remove with a round file then polish the rest i should be good. But I've decided I'm not going to spend all day on it. It really shouldn't take long to remove the surface corrosion so the longer i spend on it the closer I'll be to fucking it up so i may be calling for pro assistance next week.
EDIT I've just inspected the tube again and had a post in the top and the scarring on the post isn't coming from anything inside the tube it's being caused by the tip at the front of the top of the seat tube. I am coming round to the idea that i may be being talked off a cliff edge here. How many people have said I've never done it before but how hard can it be? Then fuck it up massively

  • I could go back through 12 pages but what bars?

  • Problem with my Merckx was someone had tightened the seat clamp , without a post in it , and all of the rubbing was coming from the top of the seat cluster as you have kinda alluded to. I fixed mine by levering with a big screwdriver , but the smart fix is to put a bolt through and have it push against a flat washer inside of the seat cluster slot if that makes sense , will need a slim nut on the bolt also inside the gap. So effectively you are able expanding it ..

  • But yes maybe get Maestro to fix it . I remember my mate can around with a brand new Gios Torino , years and years . Asked me to fix the rear brake rubbing, which was not going to happen as they had drilled the rear brake callipers bolt on the piss ..
