A question from a novice fixed rider - toe clips & straps or (double sided) clip ons? I found myself 'limping' with one foot in trying to slip the other into toe clips, rubbing toe clip on the floor for few turns until I succeeded....perhaps the fact I was wearing some vintage cycling shoes with flat and hard soles and the pedals were old CL track with equally flat (no ridges) surface was the issue?

It’s one of those thing that take some time to get used to, doesn’t help by the fact there’s no lips on the pedals to aid your feet to flip it round.

Fabulous bike. Loving those hubs

Oh yes, Hardens. Thanks. As I mentioned in pre 1950s forum, I came to the jumble sale over the w/end with an intention to buy some hubs and these were attached to the bike ^

Looks great. What's the frame - Seta?
-
• #2359
Yup, with new Columbus fork that made me realised just how harsh the Alpine fork was.
Next step is road specific disc fork to complete it.

which disc fork you thinking?

Nice. Got a cheap Hylix one in case interested.

A question from a novice fixed rider
As Ed says, the solution is to stop being a novice. It would be a pity to deface Claud with new pedals when millions before you have mastered the toe-clips/fixed combo. On the other hand, my dad switched to MTB trail pedals (PDM-8020/9020) on his freewheel equipped bikes in his final years, so if you're in your late 80s there's no shame in making your life easier

Look at MKS
But look no further than their bolt-on flip tabs which should fit those Chater-Lea pedalshttps://www.amazon.co.uk/Mks-Unisexs-Spin-2-Pedal-Metallic/dp/B002BZVLKK

Could not find that I didn’t know what to search for! Even better

Ritchey, very £££ but 30mm clearance, straight steerer, normal a-t-c, thru axle and flat mount.
Next project really, been aching for disc brakes as this is the only one in my fleet that doesn’t have it and it’s scary how weak the brake in comparison

Fab, thanks for the link, just ordered a pair

Actually is there’s a way to attach it? The pedal doesn’t look like it have provision for bolt on the back.

Add some penny washers to the bolts maybe?-thats what I use to fit toeclips to vintage pedals where this problem occurs.

Actually is there’s a way to attach it?
Not in the box, but a simple piece of rectangular bar drilled and tapped M5 would create a sandwich with the CL logo as the filling

Seen too many cheap aftermarket failure to put my faith in it (not aimed at Hylix)
-
• #2372
Yeah, I kinda thought that hylix might be a safer option. Also, do you truly think that dolan has better qc?
-
• #2373
That’s the thing; Dolan need to follow the European Standards for bike being sold here.
If there’s quality control issues, it’s on them, anything outside EU/UK, unlikely to need specific rules.
Hylix May be the safest of all far east product, but cannot be guaranteed

performance massively improved with the addition of 'fancy' brake blocks

This ones 69" (51 x 20) - I find it about right for keeping 25 kmh all day which is roughly where I'm at on a 300 or 400km and it's too spinny for me to bother trying to chase anything faster!
Nice frame! Never seen this double seatpost clamp before.
But it needs some drop bar levers to belong is this thread.
