  • Some kind of scales?

Yeah, looks like a railway luggage scale, not the same line as this one but similar

  • This one is closer

  • I'm cycling to Amsterdam in a couple of months with some friends with posh bikes. Is there anywhere to securely store a bike there? Ideally we'd avoid bringing heavy locks if possivle. The place we're staying isn't being very communicative regarding whether or not we can store bikes in our rooms so looking for alternatives.

  • What’s the best permanent rear rack attachment that allows you to drop a shoulder bag in and out?

  • This has just opened, but you still need a good lock.

The place we were going weren’t very helpful by email, but when I rang them and spoke to the person on reception they said there was nowhere to store bikes. However if we showed up with a bike and respectfully carried it inside with the chain covered he wouldn’t stop us bringing the bikes in. Not policy, but what most places seem to do.

  • A pals looking to buy some new wheels and I don't really have time to research/build him a hand made set. Don't think V-sprint wheels is a thing anymore so whats the go to entry level single speed/track wheelset atm?

  • Halos over Miche any day.

  • As someone who has a set of each, I second that motion.

  • +1 to Halo over Miche.

  • Good info, thanks for that! I'll keep chasing the hotel and see if I can get an answer from them. Failing that, I will just bring a better lock than my mates on posher bikes and sleep easily.

  • Is a scion bike defender worth it for my drive from London to Lake District?

  • Nice one. Have rec.

    Thanks everyone else too!

  • Are there any restrictions on the colour of extension cable coating?

And if not, any recommendations for custom cabling supplier? I'd like a set of 4 x 20m to 40m cable reels capable of plugging in two lights with these specs:

    Power Consumption ≤720W
    Operating Current 8A
    Operating Voltage 100V~240V, 50Hz/60Hz

Would like a particular colour on the cable and then branding on the drums.

  • Why is my wifi working fine on my phone but shit on my laptop and tablet? I know this is almost certainly due to me being computer illiterate, but it doesn't make any sense. I ran a speed test on my phone and d/l was 100Mbps+. Ran one on the laptop and it was 3Mbps. Did the same on the tablet and it was 5Mbps. WTF is going on?

  • How old are the laptop and tablet?
Possible that the wireless chip on the phone is newer/better, though 3Mbps is pretty crap even on an old laptop.
Unless the antenna inside is loose, being interfered with etc.
Or possibly old drivers on the laptop... quite a few potential reasons (none of them hugely useful if you're computer illiterate)

  • Laptop and tablet brand new. Laptop is pretty basic, but the tablet is a Samsung Tab S8, so reasonably powerful.

  • The operating current on a 240v system is 3amp (6amp for the pair). Is there any chance you would run them from a 110v converter? That would need 16 amp capable cable to run both which is pretty chunky/heavy/pricy.

Assuming you actually only need 240v operation your cable choices should be easier.

  • Thanks. I do actually have some 16amp stuff for shooting in studios but was wondering how far I could push 13a connections. If it comes to it could be 1 light per extension and then other things like cameras with much lower draws. It'd just be nice to have a single cable run from a wall into the work area rather than multiples.

  • Does your router broadcast a 2.4 and a 5ghz connection and are the slow ones only connecting to 2.4ghz? You might be able to force them onto 5 in the router settings or broadcast the different channels under different names and prefer the faster one, it still seems slow for 2.4 but might explain it a bit, especially if there's a lot of local interference on that channel. There are a few WiFi scanning apps for Android that might let you know which channels are best to choose.

  • That's probably it. I thought I'd forced things onto 5G in the router settings already, tbh. But I've had to reset the router a few times, so that will almost certainly have cocked things up.

I also used Ookla Speedtest instead of the default Google Search one and things improved considerably, so it could be that as well.

  • Should I be concerned by the pinching on this PMP carbon seatpost? Looks pretty thick layup and would hope of reasonable quality. It has mega layback needed for bike fit. The deformation means I'll probably need to clamp it a little tighter than normal to stop it slipping which doesn't seem like a great idea. Will probably spend most it's life on a turbo but would like to be able to ride outside without added anxiety.

EDIT: Worth noting that this was on my CAAD9 with rear facing cutout and clamp bolt and i'm looking to use it on my CAAD10 which has forward facing cutout and clamp bolt
