  • They're legit, but wire bead rather than folding.

  • Schwalbe Marathon or nothing!

That said, it's usually the rear which is the problem.

    What current tyres?

  • Got a rear puncture on mine recently, fixed at roadside then investigated at home, there was a circa 2" length of thick wire poking out from the bead of the tyre. Hadn't noticed it at the roadside, maybe I took the other bead off to change the tube? Not something I've ever seen before. Cut it as flush with the tyre carcass as I could and seems alright. Tyre is a Marathon (non Plus I think), might be worth having an close inspection of your tyre to see if there's anything similar?

  • I've got the same tyre on the front.
Wondering if there's something in the side that I've missed. I've gone through 2 inner tubes.

  • Possible.

    Rim tape, valve hole too.

For rim tape, I've ditched Brompton yellow stuff and go for regular tape, plastic rim tape is rubbish.

  • set of brompton honja mudguards on ebay right now

  • Ah really I bought some of the Brompton rim tape from Condor but ill take it back to get normal rim tape.

  • Boo

  • They are too stiff to sit nicely.

And that can sometimes lead to it shifting and expose a spoke hole.

  • more general question about brompton-ing around London ... I need to go to a pub after work, can i take my brompton? or will i be yelled at. i don't know how the big smoke works ...

  • just be shameless, never ask

  • i'm just a small town girl, living in a lonely world .... taking the midnight train etc etc

  • I always take mine in, never had an issue and I go to a lot of pubs

  • Never had a problem. Only issue is if you are by yourself and trying to juggle pint, bag, helemet, going for a piss, etc. You don't want to let it out of your sight even for a couple of minutes whilst going to the bar or bog.

  • 1 pint is possible, bike in one hand, bag across shoulder, pint in hand

i have shoved a couple of hiplok zipties in my frame to lock the bike to something solid while keeping an eye if you need to carry more than 1 pint/go for a piss

  • I am on a campaign to discredit "pub bikes" as brompton is the ultimate pub bike

  • I now hate Schwarbe tyres with a vengence not normally reserved for inanimate object but my experiences of the past week have made me question whether they are indeed inanimate or whether they are, in fact, foul spirits of the underworld sent to torment me.

A week or so after buying my T-Line, I had a rear puncture which i put down to the tubilitos. I was disheartened to find that the Brompton shop had sold me schraeder valved inner tubes when I needed prestas but meandered among LBSs until I found prestas. Such was my relief that I lazily (but as it turned out, sensibly) asked them to change the tube for me. I rode on.

On Sunday I had arranged to meet one of my cycling heroes to compare new Bromptons. Given the weather I perhaps ought to have gone on my C-line but, as the purpose of meeting was to show each other our latest toys, I went on the T-line. He punctured on the way to the cafe. Walking to a nearby LBS to use a track pump, my front tyre punctured. @Arvy. kindly helped me resolve it. I discovered that I only had one spare tube with me. My arthritic hands had difficulty getting the tyre off the rim.

We cycled on and then parted ways. As I was riding home, my front tyre punctured again, in a different place. On both occasions, no flint could be seen but small holes in the tyre indicated where they had been. I jumped on the Overground and went home.

I tried to pop a new inner tube on but couldn't get my swollen and deformed hands to stretch the tyre back onto the rim. I left it until this morning when new Contis arrived.

I struggled to get the Schwarbe off my front wheel. Eventually, and after a considerable time, it came off. The Conti slipped on easily.

I am now faced with the dilemma. Do I let the pain in my hands subside before attempting the rear tyre or do I swallow my pride and cycle down to an LBS and ask them to do it?

Once the Contis are both on, changing inner tubes will no longer be an issue. It's just getting that demented Schwarbe off.

  • I had to go to a meeting in a posh hotel yesterday. Folded it outside and carried it in. Doorman helped me. Day before I had a meeting in a St James's club. Folded it. They pointed me to the cloakroom where I could store it.

  • The only place in London I ever went that refused my Brompton was the Royal Albert Hall.

It’s been to many pubs, clubs, shops, museums, offices and more.

Outside of London places can be more of a ball ache. Apparently it could be used as a weapon according to a couple of places

  • Apparently it could be used as a weapon according to a couple of places

I cycled to Brighton a few years back and went to the football there. They wanted me to hand my helmet over before I went in because it could be used as a weapon ...

  • I always take a helmet into Stamford Bridge. Wouldn’t go there on a Brompton though.

@furious_tiles Royal Opera House - took mine with pleasure.
Probably easier to use at the cloakroom at ground level vs the amphitheatre one, but surely nobody here would have amphitheatre tickets would they?

@r_mash, @amey 's approach is the best, but always keep an eye on it/have someone you trust looking after it when away - this is especially true if you have come from Georgia

I can think of at least four clubs to which I have taken a Brompton. We should have lunch at my club one day. You can come on your Brompton. It also has the added advantage of allowing smart casual so that you won't have to ride there in a suit.

New ground, although I must admit that I don't love them.
