how about ridgeback errand and charge at work?
Otherwise tern short haul and bafang IMO.
Electric bikes have no reason to NOT be step thru design IMOAdded to the list, I'm pro bafang and having a utility bike. Money no problem would consider a yoonit electric.

I have a the errand as a 2nd ebike, if you want to have a go .. but I saw on gram some london shops have them for demo (bon velo, balfes).

Step through small wheel utility bikes are the jam for this sort of job.

It is not trivial to make a step-thru bike stiff enough to handle the higher loads of a loaded ebike. I have seen a few models that although looking quite beefy, feel very sketchy around roundabouts and started to get speed wobble at quite low speeds. I would definitely not recommend converting one for a 32mile daily driver.

After a pleasant ride home it is full circle back to the Cytronex C1. Started looking at bafang hub alternatives and it is a mess of cables and sensors, this looks the easiest on/off one bike solution.

Good points, both have pros and cons I guess but yeah mid-commute puncture would be painful.
Maybe one of those dedicated ebike frames ;)

It is well established here that an Arkose is more bike than anyone could ever need..

Errand is interesting in that it seems like a catalogue frame (that I am unable to find on aliex). It has provisions for internal wiring harness from batt to bottom of BB shell and then its a normal frame for a rear hub motor. If there was such a frame you could buy, bafang rear hub on that would be 👌

If I ever recover from building a new Fairlight, I'll be keen for a DIY utility ebike

At the pull the trigger stage when I realise the Cytronex C1 doesn't work with a thru-axle fork. What a wild ride for anyone reading this..

Another up for step though eBikes I love riding Liz’s Gazelle.

Gonna throw this out there. Anyone need their electric serviced or hypothetically built? Ideally cargo specific.
No charge, or pay whatever you want.
I'm Bosch & Steps certified, and worked since the early days with Bafang and also now do CYC.
I've done a lot of Swytch, but I'm not a fan...but if you insist, I can fit it.I'm totally serious.

Kona Dew-E £2k Shimano E6100 with Shimano 504Wh battery
https://winstanleysbikes.co.uk/kona-dew-e-2022-electric-bikeGenesis Smithfield £2.4k Shimano E6100 with Shimano 418wh battery
https://www.biketart.com/products/genesis-smithfield-electric-bike-2022I know you are all on the edge of your seats, start the drumroll, and the winner is..
Vitus Mach E Urban! Not the ugliest, steps 6100 with decent range, thru-axle frameset with all the mounts for guards and racks. The Kona Dew-E doesn't event have a bottle mount.
https://www.wiggle.co.uk/vitus-mach-e-urban-e-bike-alivioShe'll ride it stock for a while but ST Unlocker could be tempting for US settings and then I get a derny on windy days. Anyone used this? https://www.stunlocker.com/

Does anyone have experience with other Bafang middrives EX m420 or m500? Vs the traditional bbs01? My ecargo bike is currently front drive but has a modular bb setup so adapting to something else is just getting mounts cut. Id like to upgrade to midmount at some point and am starting to see these motor pop up cheap.

A couple of recent Standard articles, most recently at Easter, warning of the risk involved in charging cheap batteries at home, including a tragic death:
The increase in such fires is definitely alarming, and the risks must be understood.

What are the better brands of batteries for a bafang set up these days? Is it worth it to try to adapt something like a bosch? OR is there something good?

Check how the fork is constructed. Looks like a simple brazed steel fork, which could be ok is mftr says its ok or someone with an engineering mind looks at it. From photo looks similar to the bsa suicide forks of the 70s where there isn't a lot of overlap of the fork leg into the crown, and they'd fail even using low end 70s side pulls, a hub motor would destroy it leading to a serious incident.
Or it could be fine.
Switch for regular bikes are pretty good now, early versions and Brompton kits were legitimately a pre packed court case in a pretty box.£2k for kona dew sounds good to me. 8 or 9s is all you need, hydro discs, full mudguards and make sure the wheels, hubs especially aren't garbage. Seen so many extremely low quality hubs on surprisingly expensive bikes the Last few years. Even just taking it in a proper bike shop and having actual grease put inside the hubs and preloaded correctly will save you having to buy a mew set of wheels at your own cost within 6 months.

Kona is a good deal. Genesis is not so good, hubs are quandos second the cheapest, would avoid.
Genesis and Ridgeback since 2019 have been speccing some really trash parts, generally don't Reccomend then anymore -

Just picked up a AMX step through bike from the Go-Puff auction.
They have moved to Zoomo bikes hence the sale of 100+ bikes

Interesting. Are they decent, and what sort of price?
-
• #723
People who were picking them up were riding them out so that's a positive.
I have not tried mine, just dismantled it and put it in the car.Price wise, the first ones went for as high as £300 and the cheapest ones as low as £80.
You'd then need to add 20% auction fees then another 20% VAT on top. This is the bike:
