Aye. I like to mash a biggish gear. 36t and 42t with the 11-36 also worked for me on other bikes at other times.
The small semi-circular plate fits in the recess on the inner face of the dropout. It seems completely insubstantial for supporting a rear derailleur, but once it’s all together with a wheel, it’s fine!

Thanks, had thought I'd end up with a lower tooth count on the chain ring than that but I don't really understand gearing to be honest. Good to know that range works though!
Yeah it's a bolt on/clamp on hanger - I couldn't work out how to get it on last time I looked at it but hopefully I'll have a eureka moment if I spend a bit more time on it!
