• Its a little dated now, but 63xc.com/ was named after the supposed ideal ratio for off-road fixed. Perhaps start around 66 as you'll be used to higher from road?

  • Ah ok, cheers. yes that sounds about right. I was just playing around with bikecalc, and it looks like need to get myself a 19 or 20 cog, or get a smaller chainring.

  • 63 is a decent all around gear. If you have the ability on your rear hub spin a cog on the other side for off road. My best fixed off-roaders use ~63 for a primary get around gear and in the mid 50s for trail gear. It’s steep and twisty in the single track here.

  • I run 42-19 with 700x34c (60 1/4”) on the pest, spiny as all fuck on the road, but perfect for SFAB and playing in the woods.
