  • ah, so it's nonsense then. someone should let Athletics Weekly know

  • I wonder if Will Cockerell was involved with the 350 runner event they said no to; that is not a public statement by the park I can find with a quick google and he doesn't say what the source is which suggests a communication to him.

  • I'm on the the side of the skylarks and ants, not a bunch of rich joggers.

  • rich joggers, lol. XC is grass roots stuff, like the furthest you could get from a sportive, etc

  • Looks like RP have taken a step back. Here's another report that reports so: https://richmond.nub.news/news/local-news/cross-country-events-ban-in-richmond-park-triggers-fury-among-runners-170495

There was even a petition with 1000 signatures.

  • rich joggers, lol.

The park is in fucking Richmond.

Self-entitled middle-class cunts with no regard for the environment.

  • Wow!

  • I resemble that remark

  • I'm Richmond adjacent - I guess that makes me a self-entitled middle-class arsehole with no regard for the environment?

  • I think he said cunt actually...

  • Well that escalated quickly

  • I think the issue with xc running events is that they'll want to do lots of small routes in some areas that are trying to be actively protected. The want to be off trail will only have been made more difficult as the Royal parks have been adding more hard packed trails in an effort to open up the park a bit more and keep people on them.

  • From this post

10mph speed limits, and bog wooden obstructions across the road.

If I still rode a bike, I might feel a bit miffed by this.

    It’s an absolute mess.

  • That's so fucked. Someone's gonna get seriously injured with those stupid changes.

  • It's pretty shit. The magic wand sectioning on the bridge at the bottom of sawyers hill also gives priority to traffic on the blocked side (traffic from Roehampton towards richmond), this is just to slow cyclists coming down the hill. The bottom of Broomfield is just dangerous.

  • That's what I was thinking too.

That road furniture is an accident waiting to happen.

  • And I reckon that the 10mph limit would be (in my entirely unprofessional and poorly educated opinion) completely unenforceable for bikes.

Where it used to rely on the RTA etc... (however tenuously), by chucking up non-compliant road furniture, they are pretty much saying that the park roads are bit governed by the RTA and adjacent legislation (the ability to limit car speeds are governed by a different mechanism, iirc).

The 20 would be unenforceable too, by that same argument.

  • I agree that layout is shit, but tbf the first car at least was already in the narrow section when that rider arrived at it, he didn't therefore have priority

  • Ooh, I was planning on doing some laps in in the next week as I should really do more than 6km per week if I'm going to actually get round Ride 100 in 5 weeks' time.

    Will report back.

(The thing at the bottom of Broomfield Hill doesn't really bother me, most of the speed from the descent has gone by that point and you are approaching a mini-RAB where I'm not fussed if I can't blast across it at full pace. I wouldn't be surprised if they've done this specifically to annoy the faster RP lappers.)

  • The speed limit for bikes used to rely on the Royal Parks Act. And even then it's not completely clear whether it does or doesn't apply to bicycles.

Proving a bike is doing more than 20mph is also tricky as (as I understand it) none of the equipment commonly used to check speeds is certified for use against bicycles.

  • It was just an example of what's going to happen.

  • Yeah fair, I hate it all.

  • what the absolute fuck is this shit.
