  • Looks great.

we need an "open" shot tho

  • Looks great.

Our stairs are on my long list. Green paint on the treads with birch ply panelling on the OG balustrade.

  • Stretch ceiling is in. Builders described as the physically hardest thing they’ve ever done on a building site. Was quite intense.

  • I know I could Google it but wtf is a stretch ceiling??

  • Why a stretch ceiling?
How much is a stretch ceiling?

I've heard of similar before as in Sweden a lot of ceilings in houses are a paper / canvas mix also secured to a track, but they're put up as a close but not perfect fit and then painted. As the paint dries it contracts which then produces the tautness and the ceiling then settles into it's final perfectly flat state.

But it looks like what you've done is far more modern with a material (presumably a kind of PVC canvas) that is put on already taut — thus requiring that effort from the builders.

    Why choose it though?

  • Sound deadening I think, all the pads stuck to the roof before the stretch ceiling went up stop echoing

  • Will wait for an actual photographer and to be finished!

  • Go on the wtf?!

    Also most hipsterest builders eva

  • Your place is a hipsters Pinterest dream.

  • Ah you read our brief to the architect then 😅

  • What: a PVC membrane hooked onto aluminium tracks set around the walls.

Cost: not too dissimilar to dot and dab plasterboard, filling, sanding and painting.

Why: we had polystyrene tiles glued to a cracked concrete ceiling. Had to be covered somehow, so decided to try something new. This particular one has micro perforations so it absorbs sound, that plus the rockwool above turns a very live reflective room into a decent acoustic environment. This is the living room where I’ll have my hifi and our projector so two birds with one stone.

Hipsters: 100%. They’re hilarious and we’re all friends now so a good outcome all round. Will be working together in future too.

  • I saw their lil video on IG - makes it clear now. Very cool and never heard of it before.

  • Re the flat roof woes; I used to build & repair fibreglass yachts so have a bit of experience with this. Their work is messy AF but looks generally adequate for a roof which doesn't really experience any complex loadings. The 'paint' will likely be flowcoat, which is the same resin as that used for the laminating but is coloured, and more waterproof/UV resistant. It is best applied straight after laminating, so no real worries with what they have done in applying quickly. As long as the roof laminate forms a continuous 'tub', it shouldn't matter how well it is bonded to the wooden substrate. The bits that really matter are all the fiddly bits like the sharp edges of the gutter and the scupper where it runs through the parapet to the downpipe, which look like they have a few holes in and needs some more work. Hard to really see from the pictures, but it all looks repairable, rather that needing to start again.

  • Thanks, that's a helpful answer.

I have a big issue with the messy and sloppy nature of the work. I can't accept the poor finish . If I wanted it to look bad I'd have done it myself.

There are also areas were the fibreglass has not adhered to the wood underneath, kind of look like bubbles

  • The architects email back, "say no more guys, I get it."

  • I need 15mm corner matt black TRV for our new rad.

Are they all much of a muchness. More fussed by price than anything else.

It seems like you can pay £32, £60, or £120 for something that looks exactly the same.

Do I also need pipe sleeves?

  • I like to stick to danfoss stuff if i can but its all a much of a muchness.

  • Cheers.

The ones I've shortlisted are all brass and powder coated.

  • Vanity unit and cupboards turned up. Annoyed my partner when I mentioned ‘office furniture’, :-) one of the terrazzo floor tiles will fit exactly on top of the vanity so all level surfaces will have that inc windowsill, and head of bath.
