They undoubtedly experience prejudice. This is similar to racism and the two words are often used as if they are interchangeable.

It is true that many types of white people with points of difference, such as redheads, can experience this prejudice. But they are not all their lives subject to racism. In pre-civil rights America, Irish people, Jewish people and Travellers were not required to sit at the back of the bus. In apartheid South Africa, these groups were allowed to vote. And at the height of slavery, there were no white-seeming people manacled on the slave ships.

With the depressing amount of doubling down on shithouse bigotry we see these days, I'm just keen to give anyone the benefit of the doubt. Also doubt she gives that many shits about the whips.

Given what has gone on in the labour party in the past few years you would have thought that Diane Abbott would have known that.

I think that it's rather complicated for Abbott. She's faced racism (and sexism) throughout her life and career. I wonder if this means that understanding the bigotry that other groups face is very difficult for her. When she started in politics as one of the post Bernie Grant figures the landscape was much easier for her to comprehend.
