• Took 5 years but today they finaly went on the car. Have only driven it a few kms but definetly feels more stable ;)

Will take some better pics when i get the chance. Def a different look with these wheels, not certain i prefer it but looks good i think.

  • I did consider getting rid of it more than once. I had a couple of issues with it that drove me towards throwing the towel in.

There was an oil leak at the front of the engine. I changed the crank seal and the timing cover seal (three times!!!) and couldn’t solve it. In the end I gave up and got some help.

It turns out it was the pulley itself. A brand new race part, from a reputable manufacturer was not machined concentric to the shaft, so it would spin ecliptically, causing the leak.

I have two kids and a busy job. It is fucking infuriating when you use a month of spare time trying to sort something like that, only for it to be the 350 quid bit you bought.

I also couldn’t get a solid brake pedal. I tried to be clever and use a dual circuit master cylinder from a really early American spec mgb. I tried to shorten the plunger thing and weld a nut on and spent hours bleeding it. I gave up and went beck to a single circuit in the end.

The windows were a fucking waste of time, too. They look racecar and save about 4g, but took ages to work out.

I’m happy as fuck with how it has turned out (so far!). I’m regretting using the povvo aluminium panels in the doors, as the rest looks great.

I need to redo the dash and a couple of other little jobs, too.

  • It’s a bog standard 998 Mini Special (which is what they called the City in Europe) but it’s completely rust free, has been meticulously restored. The owner is a military man who has been fastidious with it and came armed with a folder full of history.
