• As a temporary measure for sorting out my crazy paving front yard (more crazy than paved) I'm thinking of ripping it up and putting some stones/gravel down (plus one of those plastic shed bases so I can put a bike store in).

Firstly, does this sound a reasonable idea? Anything to look out for?

I guess I want something like 20mm washed gravel, how do I work out how much of it I need? How does the weight translate to area?

    Cheers

  • Based on our 20mm sized stones, 1 bulk bag of gravel will cover approximately 12 sqm at 50mm depth

Not much use as they don't give a weight per bulk.

25kg of gravel will cover an area measuring around 0.6sqm. This is based on wanting coverage of about 50mm in depth

  • Remember to put down weed proof membrane.

  • Seems pointless if temporary. You'll just curse removing it all. The crazy paving isn't so bad

    Bike thieves.

    Your back? :p

Maybe just stick the bike shed on, lift some stones randomly and put plants/soil in the holes?

I got it in a back garden as a small path. I will dump the cheap nasty concrete bits but re-use the strong grey stone bits for a path.
