Maybe restricting access to some of the more inane chat sections would be possible?
Making Misc & Meaningless a member-only room?
That would certainly make us appear to be more bike-specific and specialised, whilst putting a large amount of content out of view.

I'm in favour of leaving just a tiny about of stuff visible without an account and logged in

Unless there's a way of specifically banning crawlers from that section, but you can click through as a human, yeah, why not?

Interesting moral question. If we allow it I assume it will make the AI more 'like us'? And more knowledgable about bikes?
I don't deny it would be helpful to ask future Siri if my AXS 2 chain would work with Campagnolo 16 speed chainsets.

So what you're saying is we should make our own AI trained just from the forum

I've been training in here for years

AI is crap, doesn't even mention beer.

Doesn't even mention #hippyisfat

As an AI language model, I do not have access to personal information about specific individuals unless it is publicly available. I am also unable to browse user accounts on LFGSS.com or any other platform. It's important to respect people's privacy online, and not to share personal information without their consent.

Ban it.
If all they can offer LUFGUSS in return is higher listing on some rankings, and bossman is not dependent on these higher rankings to help keeps the lights on and servers throbbing, then fuck megacorp off into the sea, we don't need them. If we can give them the finger lets do it, not many will make that stand, so if we can we should imo.
I just don't like the idea of being harvested. I'd prefer a more realistic Siri/Alexa that gave me the kick up the arse I sometimes need "hurry up you stupid cunt get your fucking keys and wallet and get out of the house now, you've got to be at the station in 5 minutes you tedious faffing twat. And the position of those shifters is fucking embarrassing dude, and oil that chain, fucks sake just sort your shit out!".....
....but just have that uneasy feeling that Terminator 5 will start with 50 year old John Connor posting on LFGSS asking if he can bodge an old 8 speed Campag road cassette onto his 9 speed MTB hub, and after we've politely mocked him for being a clueless noob, the machines will order he be destroyed by the appliances in his high tech kitchen he posted on LFGSS the previous week, and the rest of us will be next.
So that's a definite no from me.
Fuck, any humans out there remember how to make a list?

As said in other places, it just can't understand the nuance, sure that's a list, but it's not an LFGSS list is it.

You mean because that method actually works?

Just one thread about Rod Liddle remains accessible by the crawlers

If we fed the sum total of forum content into an AI bot, could it produce a book?

Unlikely, that's not even something a group of humans can do.

I think the solution I'm most attracted to is:
- Leave a tiny part of the forum visible, enticing people to sign-in.
- Make the vast majority of the site invisible, sign-in required.
It neatly solves preventing all bots, reducing search indexing, preventing training against the content here, and also very likely reduces the spam problem too as we won't be found as somewhere to spam in the first place.

A group of humans could do it. Just not the humans from this place.

I like the little bit of content and the rest hidden, and banning AI. If we don't then when Skynet comes for us they will be on insanely overpriced retro MTBs
"Resistance is futile. Yes £3k was a fair price for the Muddy Fox, the STX MC40 groupset was NOS. Now die."

Maybe a noob question, but what's stopping a bot having a user login so it can trawl the rest of the site? Surely that would only take a human somewhere to log it in with a legit device and just let the bot free to trawl the hidden parts of the forum.
