That mystery stem is the best looking I've seen and it looks like it's on a 54 with the short headtube as well

These are very nice options. Low profile, slim, light, -12ΒΊ, etc...

The Darimos are a bit square and expensive. I've looked at Extralite and I've always wanted one on other bikes but i think the body on these is quite fat as its as wide as the inside of the clamp. I think i need something skinny that flares at the clamp like this one I'm trying to find. I think a - 12 will be fine though if i slam it

Is it? Thanks they seem to be a go to for these -8 looks ok. I think that's the only offset they do? That one is a very good price and all I'd have to do is get it sprayed. I think one of these or the Sworks could work

It's going to look like a compromise however you do it IMO. If you want it to look nice, you need to go custom ($$$) and even then, it's not guaranteed to really look nice.

I've alright spent Β£180 on a stem that doesn't work so I'm trying to avoid spending another Β£300 on another stem that doesn't look nice π¬

Here I have quill (looks best), on of the slim ahead stems, custom stem from Talbot and I'll dig out a pic with the Extralite it currently has.

The De Rosa looks lush π i agree the quill looks best but the custom steel one is the closest to the look I'm after. I'm currently trying to find someone to spray a stem.

If you are London based I'm happy to lend that stem to you. It's 112mm long and minus 10 degrees. Made for 25.4mm bars which I can also lend you.

Thanks for the kind offer but I'm down in Brighton. I think buying a superleggero to check how it looks then i can always return it if it doesn't work or grab the one off ebay Fred posted and i should be able to sell it on for almost that. I'm about to lose a load of money selling the Simworks if it even sells. It's a beautifully made stem that will look great on the right bike just not this one π

get the Superlegerra. It's lovely and slim, light, and italian, and significantly cheaper than the other options

surely there's a discussion about stems that can help with this on retro bike
-
• #247
Superleggerra works well on the Master frame. Have a few friends who run these on theirs, and I run it on my C40.

The superleggero does seem a popular choice on neo retro master builds. One was on my original shortlist and its being suggested a bit again. That and the fact the stem i posted earlier for ID because i liked it turned out to be one so i think it's probably the best I'm going to find. I was thinking this finish as its glossy at the headtube end and only matt at the bar clamp. It's pretty stealthy the Deda logo hardly shows and the red superleggero does match the red superleggera on my 3t bars. I'm not going to attempt to spray one myself as a quick read up earlier suggests painting anodized surfaces isn't that straight forward. I would also have to spend Β£40 on stuff only to potentially/likely fuck it up. The Simworks looks lovely off the bike just doesn't work on this. Anyone wanna buy it?
