I appear to have bought this rather nice little Mini yesterday. I've wanted one for about 30 years.

What about a Berlingo Multispace? Same length as the C-max but narrower. Obviously not as nice inside as the c-max but easy to drive and super practical.
We love ours, great for bikes, camping trips and diy. Get the XTR and the 3 rear seats are removable separately. We keep one out permanently and can roll in 2 road bikes with ease. Also you can retrofit a Transporter Fiamma fold down bike rack on the tailgate boot lid.

Following my post a while back something to fill the gap between having to give my company car back and getting onto my new employer's company car scheme, as tends to happen with me, things got out of hand and I have found myself in posession of a 2010 Audi TTS which I got for a relative snip but does need a fair bit of work. Once this has filled the gap between company cars I intend to keep it for generally enjoying when I don't need to be hauling the family around with me!
I have until June to get this into a state where it can be my daily driver, so the clock is ticking...
Rather than fill this thread up with my faffing I've started a project one over here

A new door is Ā£50-Ā£80, plus getting it fixed. The insurer has said if we keep it, theyāll knock Ā£500 off the max payout. Itās not the best car or even particularly clean but I think Iād prefer to run it into the ground for Ā£600.

Opinions soughtā¦ Iām moving to Snowdonia with my family this summer. Weāre living up a steep hill, about 5 mins off the road (up a rough-ish track but usually possible in a normal car).
We are going to need a car that can cope with a bit of ice and snow in the winter, and has decent boot space. I donāt want an suv or a diesel car and have a very small budget - Ā£5k max.
Currently looking at the Subaru Outback c2007.
Anything else you would suggest? 4wd and decent clearance are a must, as is plenty of boot space.
Thanks!

I run an Outback living at 1000m in the Pyrenees.
Amazing car for you're use.
If in the UK I'd buy a shogun or land cruiser (both will go to the moon), everyone drives a land cruiser here for good reason. . But outback if you don't want a proper 4x4.
A cursory eBay search shows this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/374588533338?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=fkmihlbkrgc&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
Ps. Congrats, sound dreamy!

Skoda Octavia Scout?
Volvo XC70?
Not that it's worth fuck all, imo I'd go for the Outback 3.0

You're a bit limited if you don't want diesel at that budget.
Subaru are the obvious choice.
If you found something close without the clearance you could always raise the height a bit. For the winter the right tyres will a difference.

Much nicer place to be than a scooby
FSH. And probably fewer miles than any volvo in that price range.

Thanks. Weāre really excited. Good to know you think an Outback would work well. I really want to steer clear of tank-like vehicles to be honest!

I know you said no SUV, but Skoda yeti sounds like itād be bang on. Itās definitely on the charming/reasonable end of SUVs compared to ridiculous urban barges.

Bit out your budget but thereās plenty of the smaller petrol engines ones nearer 5k

Volvo xc70 would be the other one. But yeh I really would buy a shogun or land cruiser myself, the prices are a lot better in UK. Don't get the 3.0L outback. It drinks a lot of fuel and I think the tax is mad in UK. No tax here and fuel cheaper.

Outback handles like a car, very good in the snow, especially on winters and is slightly higher than the average bear.
I've had mine for 10 years and honestly it's really a challenge to find anything in the same ballpark these days for sensible money.
Only downside is slightly dated interior and poor fuel economy (average 28mpg, easy mid 30s on a run).
