  • Out of curiosity, how many "sub is fake" made the call based on it being a a more popular model, therefore more likely to warrant the effort to make a good copy?

  • Hadn't even considered that.

I didn't spot the lack of bold Submariner text either.

The dial markers looked off / flat and the pip at 12 on the bezel looked too chunky. Hard to tell in a photo but the bezel market inlays also looked a bit flat / rubbish.

It's not bad though; especially for £300 when a Steinhart Ocean 39 is 490Eur

  • Like I say I compared vs mine and there were a few things which looked different, small subtle differences mostly I noticed the bracelet and bezel inlays rather than the watch face itself.

But as I said its deffo subtle and irl you'd never look at that on someones wrist and thing it was snide

  • The giveaway for me is the bezel insert. The numbers on it are too "straight" - if you compare it to a real one (or the Sea-Dweller next to it), look at the number 30. On the fake the two numerals are exactly parallel, where on a real one they are angled apart slightly to follow the radius of the bezel.

  • Interesting point. I only really looked at the crown on the clasp.
