Wow that colour Scheme looks lush. Can't wait to see it built up. Worth the wait.

Pow- thats the one !!

does the stem look funny the way the bit that covers the steerer is sort of out of proportion with the headtube? please take this in the spirit of nit-picking this thread seemingly invites!

Those are some deep drops

Isn't 6 in normal for a classic style drop? Their Superleggeras same as on my Genesis but that pic makes them look extra wangy though. They'll look like this with everything fitted and wrapped. Just not pink and with nice levers. 3t do describe the drop shape on these as "very present"

I think the reflection in that pic highlights that junction. I think it's pretty clean considering it's a 1 1/8 stem and a 1 in headset. I thought the bolt looked quite prominent but the bolt has to go somewhere. Once there's cables arcing around that area it'll stand out less and everything needs clamping down which will bring the stack down a few mm and close those little gaps. The stack is currently only 1cm taller than my Genesis only about 7mm by the time everything is clamped up which can be fixed with a lower stack upper bearing cover if i notice it.

With a post and saddle mocked up at my ride height it doesn't look as top heavy. Doing this confirmed again the Hylix post isn't black enough and also a little layback will look better than an inline.

ooof.
can i be annoying and ask for shallower rims -
• #185
I like wheels , but a colnago branded stem and shallower / ergo bars would be my vote .

Yep i have thought maybe i should have gone for the 35's when i ordered these but its a niche swap request to post. It has to be Boras as Hyperons aren't much lighter and not aero and anything else non Campag will probably be UD matt finish.

I alway used to ride fsa compacts but i only have 2 road bikes now and both have thes. I've got used to the look and feel. Colnago don't seem to do any nice stems certainly not for a retro build. I'd love and old graphic fsa plasma for this but any i see come up are always really expensive and in shitty condition. Any stem with a regular stack would need 2-2.5 cm of spacers underneath as well which can spoil the look a bit.

much lighter and not aero
This is a skinny steel round tubed bike

Could give Stephen of Panto Parts (no euph) a shout to add some tasteful Colnagoness to the stem?

Very lovely, great you finally have this. Your bike your rules but i do think the scale of the stem looks off compared to the frame tubing. If you're considering other options this is worth the £8 price tag!

Not the quality this bike deserves but this worked well on a 1" steerer and allowed me to use a 1" stem cap. Tester could probably knock you up a nice slim spacer and cap as well.

I've done this a lot with a DeRosa, getting the stem headset interface looking nice is a challenge.
This is a good combo in my opinion.

I don't want another aero bike but i still don't want heavy slow bike either. This should come in at well under 8 kg and feel lively with the help of some nice wheels. I'd have Meilensteins on this if i could.

With the stem about this time last year i actually won a custom steel stem from August bicycles sprayed by Quintessential customs. I could have had a lovely fillet brazed 1 inch steerer 60mm stack stem with side bolt in any finish like this one which would have looked amazing with the perfect stack no shim or obviously protruding bolt for free. I already had the Sim works and it seemed excessive at the time to have a second stem specifically made for a bike that i didn't have yet and was already uncertain was actually going to come off as I'd already had two delay notifications by then so I offered the prize back with everything else at the time.

How did you win it, by racing or coming up with a wit slogan?
-
• #196
Neither it i got second prize in a Ukraine fundraiser raffle organised by August bicycles. It was promoted on here but i don't think the first prize winner was someone on here. I think the last thing i won racing was a bunch of flowers 😂

Well flowers sure beat my inner tube. It was latex though

Lovely frameset (i had 2 x original masters in the past)
Should you have gone for a longer head tube and shorter stack stem...? -
• #199
How about one of those carbon wrapped colnago branded stems from a few years ago? I think they came in black or white

@johnnettles2 A headtube long enough to be able to get the front end where i want it using a regular stack stem comes on a 57cm frame. This is a 54 and only has a 117mm HT. The conical bearing cover doesn't help it's 10mm i don't need and i didn't account for it when i did my sums before ordering everything. Can @gbj_tester help with a bearing cover? Otherwise it could be sell this for a fraction of what i paid for it these are £180 😬 and buy a regular stack stem and do some stretches?
Only had an hour free so didn't get much done today. The rear dropouts and mech hanger threads were painted as well which slowed things down a bit but the new seatpost is going to 4-6 weeks 😴
