Rats! Would have loved these.
Anyone fancy putting in a group order to Light Bicycle? If we order 3 pairs of rims it would come to £247 / pair (possible customs charges on top). DM me if you're keen.
-
• #7
could be but what rims are you talking ? prices vary a lot between models especially with their regular and light range
-
• #8
That price was for the R25 rims (for rim brake) with a smooth braking surface. The grooved surface adds $30. What rims are you after?
-
• #9
Also does anyone know if Light Bicycle will sell me just a complete rear wheel?
-
• #10
Yeah they’ll pretty much do whatever you want.
Just email them or get them on the chat function, they are mega helpful.
Keep in mind it’s new year over there so they’ll be on holidays this week but the US guys may reply.

You can order one wheel anyway through the site.
-
• #12
i see. possibly a pair of deeper ones for fixed, r45, with one rear non breakeable and one grooved front
-
• #13
Might be tempted by a single disc rim if the price is right, and I'm allowed to order just one rim
-
• #14
Yeah ordering one rim is fine!
For example here's a 35mm disc rim which is £105 plus shipping: https://www.lightbicycle.com/carbon-700C-25mm-wide-road-disc-rim-clincher-35mm-deep-New-Gen-Aero-shape-tubeless-compatible.html -
• #15
Hey I think that's pretty much the rim I'd go for as well. Wonder what that 105 + shipping turns into with the group buy discount.

I’ve not paid any import/duty tax yet. They emailed after the order was placed to confirm I was happy for them to value the goods at $120 or so. I also went for the cheaper shipping and they got here in 5 weeks, for what it’s worth. I’m not sure whether a large order would be handled the same way though.

I may be up for this.Need to look through their website properly 1st though. When were you thinking of ordering?

Ok interesting. I wonder if a large order would be more likely to attract customs charges. Then you're losing the shipping saving. Might be best to make small groups!
I just played with the Light Bicycle shipping estimator. Basically you stand to save about £15-20 on shipping if you at least pair up with another buyer. But then savings diminish as you add more.
Shipping 1x rim: .......................................£45
Shipping 2x rims: .....................................£53
Shipping 1x wheelset: ..............................£88
Shipping 2x wheelsets: ...........................£131 (£65/set)
Shipping 4x rims: .....................................£79(£20/rim)
Shipping 6x rims: .....................................£105 (£17/rim)
Shipping 3x wheelsets: ............................£219 (£73/wheelset)
Shipping 2x wheelsets + 6x rims...........£237 (£67/wheelset, £17/rim) -

I might aim to make an order this weekend. Or next week.
But grouping together wheelset orders making and £££ order totals may attract customs attention. So I'll probably look to club together with one or two other buyers just buying rims.

-
• #23
Ey up...
To save me going through the thread...
Do they both have a braking surface?
And what spoke count are they? Please and thanks.
-
• #24
Sorry...
My bad... I thought there was a lot more thread to read through!
20x24 is a bit low on the spoke count for my weight!
Thanks though!

How much are you after for the hubs? I could be tempted to build them up..
They are the R25 (25mm) calliper brake clincher version. The front has the etched brake track. F20h/R24h. I had intended on building them for a road fixed bike with Mack hubs. I would like roughly what I paid for them so £250 posted within the UK
