Depending on the age you're looking at Transporter prices can be vary quite a bit. Esp depending on whether they're camper converted or not, what sort of conversion etc.
On the scammer thing - it's possible, esp with transporters. They're consistently popular so attract chancers but they're often apparent in that there'll be someone asking £8k for a total shitbox, or wanting to recoup every penny of the £12k they spent on their diy conversion.

I'm considering finally saving up for a van, so speculatively looking at Transit Customs and VW Transporters for sale on ebay to get an idea on price. Quite a few appear very cheap, but not too good to be true, compared to the going rate (90%). I presume with these vehicles, and the owners they attract, there are a lot of scammers about?
