What camera do I buy? / general gear talk

You’ll probably get mixed answers but camera manufacturers have been putting all their efforts into mirrorless systems.

Canon and Nikon now have whole lens lineups for the R & Z systems so their SLR lenses are probably not going to receive much attention from now.

Mirrorless tends to have loads of bells and whistles and are usually equally happy shooting video but you can get a full frame dslr now for relative bargains, because no-ones investing in those systems.

Depends a bit on how much you care about size/weight/buttons and of course budget. You can get some good deals on dslr's like the Canon 5d mk3 which will get you full frame for cheaper than mirrorless and are still banging cameras, but aren't exactly pocketable. Mirrorless cropped sensor cameras like the Sony 6x series are at a size no DSLR can match but at the trade of buttons/grip size. There's current mirrorless full frame which are very good but far from a bargain. If money was no object I'd own a Nikon Z6ii. Then of course there's the cross over cameras like the Fuji XT series which are mirrorless cropped sensor but in a more handling friendly body than the Sony 6x. They'll all take great pictures these days. It's also worth considering any lenses you already own or prices of second hand ones for the body you like. Personally I went for a second hand Sony A7ii as an attempt to get the best features for the money but Sony lenses keep their value second hand a bit more than brands like Canon. I'm sure a lot of people will argue to get the minimum requirement body then spend all that you can on the best lenses.
