I got a couple from here: https://www.qualitycarpettrims.co.uk/buy/20mm-flooring-ramp/
(different sizes available, smaller differences on a different page)They're backed with double-sided tape, so possibly not the most durable fixing, but no problems so far for us after about a year.

After over 7 years in this house we're getting the stairs carpeted on Friday.
I guess that means I'm finally fixing those loose floorboards tomorrow. -

Did you put a huge amount of effort into paint scraping sanding, oiling and painting them before you got the carpets fitted, like I did?
-

Gladly no. I did for the downstairs boards which Mrs rhowe is now thinking about carpeting though

negotiation 101, have a viable alternative, so you can walk away
It’s one form of negotiation, it’s not the only way. Finding something that works for all parties and giving ‘outs’ to lead them along is less perilous but as you allude to, people are morons and will actively work against their best interests.

"Dear tbc,
Thank you for the offer you made on the property.
The seller has decided to prolong your anxiety by waiting until after the long weekend to give you an answer.
Best wishes,
Estate Agent"
I mean, that's a completely reasonable thing to do and exactly what we did when ours went under offer.
But it really seems like every stage of the process is designed to make you doubt yourself and question all your decisions. That place we discounted last weekend? Maybe that was actually the right one.

Does anyone have anyone they'd recommend for a survey in Catford/ South East?

We're in SE6 and used Collier Stevens. Found them to be very thorough.

Getting a full suite of new windows for our house installed next week, queue much excitement and feeling of future warmth and soundproofing.
However we've just been asked to pay the full cost upfront before installation. Seems a bit unusual to me? We obviously paid a deposit a while ago for this purpose. It's with Wandsworth Sash Windows so I'm sure it'll be legit but it just seems a bit off to me to ask for everything before any work has been done to our property. Am I being unreasonable? They've threatened to cancel the installation next week if its not paid immediately.

What's the contract say?
Hard no to paying all. Could pay and retain a % for snagging.

Eight days after making our offer we've still not heard back from the vendors. The estate agents have said they've left a message and sent an email.
When we saw the place again last week we were resolved to buy it, but in the meantime another, much cheaper property in an area that's slightly less desirable and with schools that are slightly less good is coming back into contention even though we'd ruled it out before.
We're very privileged in so many ways to have these kinds of choices to make, but it doesn't make it any less of a headache.

Just checked, unfortunately the contract does say that full payment must be made at installation. So I guess I'd better pay up and hope for the best..
-
• #58449
"At" installation or "before" installation? If it is "at", I'd be waiting until they are on site with the installers

Seems common for windows and doors ro turn up damaged, I get 50 up front but full balance before installation is a warning signal and should have been highlighted when you paid your deposit.
Hey, what's the website for design again, I forgot where I wrote it down. You can shout it at me! Thanks
