If the US experience in the Middle East is anything to go by, they’re there in a training capacity, and armed security is provided by private military companies.

Special forces are on record as having been in Eastern Ukraine since 2021; it's probably not a secret if it's in the Daily Mirror.
Also supposed to be a load of ex-SAS who are there 'independently' and not just training or advising.
