  • Blender/food processors. Mine has broken. It was a smoothie maker type thing I got given and abused it making peanut butter. Never have smoothies. What should I be looking at as a replacement? It needs to handle making peanut butter and chopping other things up really small.

  • I love a proper Magimix

Or a commercial unit? Empire or buffalo?

  • Second-hand Thermomix. They're built like a tank.

  • A pot boiler over and water got into our fan oven, i can see the burnt out clock/pcb, £100 smeg repair callout quoted us £300 in parts to fix.

Whats the opinion, spend another 300 because we’ve sunk 100 already?

We have no warranty even though its less than 5 years old because purchased by previous owners.

From what we can tell it was less than £500 new.

  • From what we can tell it was less than £500 new.

That kind of doesn't matter. How much will a replacement cost you today? You can get a brand new Smeg oven for £300-1000. How fancy do you want yours to be?

  • and @mr_tom thanks for the suggestions. I found the spare part online for £8 so will see if I can ressurrect it. The part that transfers rotational force from the blender unit to the blades (in the screw on lid for the pot) is made of hard plastic which had cracked over time and eventually exploded. The corresponding part on the lid/blades is made of hard rubber so has some flex to stop this from happening.

Having looked at the cost of some of these units 2nd hand will have to be the way if I need a replacement.

  • Can you see which parts you need? Might be able to find cheaper non-official Smeg parts online if it looks like a DIY job? I've replaced fans and elements in ovens before but never a PCB so not sure how scary a job that would be for a DIYer.

  • we got an Indesit DIO3T131FEUK about a year ago, mainly as it has a 25 min cycle and also automatic door-opening when it finishes (only certain cycles).

has a light on the floor when it's on, but no remaining time type display.

warranty has been fine, had one issue and engineer came out super quick to replace a PCB, even though he said the issue (water cold) was likely due to the way the pipes/hoses were plumbed in.

  • Cheers.

Another issues now is that howdens don't do our colour cabinets any more so we need to work out what to do.

Guess this is why after a lifetime of replacing shit in kitchens my mum speced non-integrated every for their kitchen.

  • Another issues now is that howdens don't do our colour cabinets any more so we need to work out what to do.

If you know the Howdens name of the colour look in eBay, I was able to source one that way. When we did ours we also had to get a longer plinth, so that part doesn't exactly match (another story)

  • Cheers. Good idea

  • I’ve been looking for a butter curling today. It’s an absolute mine field.

  • Very pleased to discover our new Smeg induction hob doesn’t make a peep. Haven’t spilled a pan of water on it yet though I guess.

  • Smug induction

    Shame. They look tasty.

  • Boom.

    Fucken.

    Tish.

  • Not bad because seasonal.

  • Don’t encourage him

  • Need a new iron - anyone on here for a recommendation ?

Looking at PHILIPS PerfectCare Elite GC9630/20 but all ears

  • That's a great choice IMO. Are you planning on a stack or a side by side install, with say a vacuum or warmer drawer?

  • Read this as a reply to the iron question, and was in shock and awe at how pro your laundry and clothes storage game must be.

  • How much are you ironing?

I love the idea of a fancy pants steam generator iron, but as I'm only ever doing bedding and shirts, a £50 Philips has been more than adequate.

  • Stacked - combi on top.

I'm not sure if I should be embarrassed when I say that I don't know what a vacuum drawer is. Do I need one?

  • Partly as a counter to @TW, my 2-pence worth.

We had many normal steam irons until a couple of years ago. We then bought a Bosch steam generator iron which was great until the tank started leaking. As it was end of sale we were given a refund and bought a Morphy Richards steam generator iron instead. That is a bit rattling/noisy when some sort of pump runs periodically but is otherwise fine. Both are so much better to use for ironing, I'll never buy another non steam-generator iron again. Can't really help pick between specific models though as I haven't tried many.

    Also ironing bedding?
