  • Finally finished to put together the Pinarello Monviso frameset I bought off @cake off eBay (£82) in July 2022.

It was supposed to be a parts bin built but I had to buy the following parts:
    27.0mm seatpost £8, 31.8mm seatpost clamp £4, ITA BB £12, wheelset £37.20, rear derailleur £8.

Total spent = £151.20 + the rest of the parts I had lying around from other projects

  • Love this, such nice proportions.

  • I like that. The pedals work really well aesthetically!

  • That's really nice dude.

  • ... fenders and polished basket will follow

  • Bike coop rescue frame with local pedigree. 1994 531C and built in Newcastle for a Newcastle bike shop by Dave Yates and his crew. Mostly a parts bin build with new bars, cassette and stuff. Only thing left to do is to acquire a front shifter but I’m not crying out for changing into a 52T ring very often.

Rides really well and ideal as a town bike.

  • This is the way 🙏

  • Supposedly the final iteration of my silly little Budget Wilier lockdown project. Maybe need to get an alternative to the Marathon Plus anchors now that it’s commuting duties are over.

  • Taken advantage of Planet X's bargains to up/downgrade from TRP Hylex + bar end shifters, to Force + BB7s.

Fell out of love with bar end shifting, and as good as Hylex is, I am pleased to report that despite very mixed reviews on here BB7s, set up very very carefully with high quality cables are excellent too.

Mudguards, rear rack and basket removed as post Covid and baby, this is no longer a commuter but free to be a proper road / slightly-offroad bike.

I've owned this for a few years now and it's done some great rides and mini tours in its time, but apart from commuting its never had as many miles as it deserves, and since the baby I've lost my mojo. Aim of the overhaul is to help with motivation to get properly back into regular riding.

Bar tape is wild and I love the look but sadly the quality is awful, no grip at all, it's too thick and too short for the 46cm flared bars, so I've got some nearly as tasteless celeste Prime tape to go on instead.

Then just need to get the right straps for fitting a Carradice to the front rack, find someone who can persuade the derailleur to reach the biggest cog, and hopefully many sunny Sunday traffic-free mornings to come.

Previous setup from about 5 years ago also pictured, reckon it's aesthetically a little nicer now.

    172,5

    and thanks !

  • Trying to the cranks off of my Marin without much luck. Afraid to strip the threads I am now adding penetration oil and cycling with the bolts undone. Any other tips?

  • You can get square taper cranks off with this type of bearing puller

  • Thanks! Tried a similar version with arms once but it could grip the arm. This looks better!

  • just don't believe the text. they are usually light duty chinesium rebranded under 159 different names and failed miserably on a wheel bearing job (intended purpose, innit..). should be fine for canks, tho :)

  • they are usually light duty chinesium

True, but the good brands are hundreds of pounds, so you pays your money and you takes your choice. It was just a picture of the style of tool, @nogk can decide between £19.99 generic at Screwfix and https://www.lawson-his.co.uk/gedore-8017550-separator-puller-138-0-p71341 + https://www.lawson-his.co.uk/gedore-8019680-bearing-separator-140-0-p71356 for £128

  • I’ll ask the local auto shop if they have one :-)

  • Flat bar cross bike* coming out for the 'summer', needs a clean/swap wheels out for open pros I nicked off a customer. Maybe converting back to drop bars too?
