• Very nice, what fork is that please?

  • Thanks! That's a custom Orlowski, he's made at least another identical one for my collague so should have the blueprints, should be just a matter of asking if you want one.

  • custom Orlowski

Very cool, didn't realise it was steel. Looks like 45mm rake, do you know what the max tyre clearance is?

  • Yeah, I asked for a clearance of 38mm with a mudguard, in the picture it's fitted with 40mm Smart Sams, could probably go up to 42mm without issue.

  • Jealous of my mates new bike.

  • aside from the steamroller, which modern steel, horizontal top tube tracklocross frames are out there at the moment? Preferably possible to get in the EU

  • Genesis Day One? the old canti one is much more lively I find but discs are nice for actually stopping.

  • On One Mulo/ second hand Pompino?

  • Not sure any of those have a horizontal TT. Brother All-day still available new, Mash will ship to EU if you have money to burn. Alternatively a used Tutto could probably be found locally

  • Surly Cross Check - horizontal dropouts rather than track ends, but has big tyre clearance and cross geometry

  • Love my Allday. Such a nice riding bike. Excuse the nds picture!

  • After getting sniped on a Day One, I'm now frantically scrabbling around for a similar frame to buy before my enthusiasm for a tracklocross build evaporates :-D

Please do let me know if anyone's offloading something in 50/52cm

In the meantime - I was entertaining other SS frames as I have a CDF fork I could pop in something else. There's a Charge Plug 0 local to me in my size, but I'm having trouble working out what size tyres I could fit in the back - can anyone shed any light?

  • If it's this era of frame then you'll easily get 38 in there, possibly bigger.

  • Have you had a look at the On One Mulo?

  • @umop3pisdn
It's the Charge Plug 0 - the tange steel version with road calipers. Yeah, I found references to the canti frames taking the kind of size tyres im after (40ish) but I can't find any details for this version other than it fitting 32s.

    @ltc
Yeah I was tempted when they were £99 last week, but I was put off by tapered steerer and canti posts. Basically a mate has a CDF fork he said I could have, which is perfect but limits me to straight steerer.

  • Got you! Even better, buy a second hand Pompino. Straight steerer and then we'll have 2 matching bikes.

  • You know what, that was my original want. Then realised I'd rather a pompetamine (which you just don't seem to be able to find ever!), then decided actually I'd rather something further along the MTB-spectrum like a Charge Cooker EBB or a SS Inbred, then my mate started building up a SO-EZ and now I'm back to 700c disc, but im leaning towards fixed as I never get to ride my poor neglected Donohue these days!

    (csb etc)

  • You could always get a straight to tapered crown race. The last one I bought was £5 from the jungle site.

Budget option, bit of tank but gets it done and think can still be had as frameset only in the EU (not UK anymore) Decathlon Elops 500

  • Yeah true - it'd sting a bit buying a Mulo for £70 more than I could have done last week, mind!

  • I had exactly the same thought process and ended up with a Pomp with a disc fork. I've only used it for commuting/getting about rather than any off road stuff but it's loads of fun.

  • I wonder if this is still for sale. Pompetamine in what looks like a 50 or 52.

  • Bear in mind for fixed disc, cog chainline on a 135mm hub is usually 52mm which ain't easy to get at the front without using MTB cranks
