As someone who’s 2/3 of the way through something similar, the thought of living in the building at the same time gives me the fear. It would have to be a big place with another floor to retreat to.
As to the planning? It’s all in my head apart from budgets estimated beforehand and continued prompts from my partner asking if I have spoken to electrician/tiler/plumber etc.
don’t underestimate the research/sourcing time for all the stuff you want and the stuff you didn’t know you needed.
I'm glad I'm living in mine, means I can keep an eye on all the trades who seem to think a drawing is a suggestion rather than a design! Also hasn't cost me any more to get insurance during the works. I don't WfH though....
