Yep brand new callipers straight from Madison. Piston is miraculously ok, it seems, I’m going to take the whole bike apart and deep clean it.

Well I have indeed changed from very middle-aged, white collar corporate to very middle-aged, uncollared unemployed, so that might explain it!

This also reminds me that Scottish colleagues were surprised that 'outwith' (which got used a lot in business scope discussions) is heard as comically outdated/overwrought elsewhere - something Rees-Mogg might use.

comically outdated
To anybody who speaks proper English, both Scottish and American Englishes are comically outdated. Neither population seems to have bothered to keep up since the Enlightenment.

And we’re richer for it

we’re richer for it
The English would be richer too if they had cleaved to enlightenment ideals

Bit of a long shot. Does anyone in south east or east have a hot glue gun I can borrow for one tiny job? Happy to pay in cash/beers/other fun stuff. Just seems a bit wasteful to buy one for 10 seconds of use!

I have one here in Forest Hill.
You are welcome to borrow it.
It's a very basic model. -
• #116660
Amazing! I'll shoot you a DM. Very basic is absolutely fine, I literally just need it for one blob.

• #116661
Herne Hill if still needed.

It looks like I'm sorted but I really appreciate the offer!

I’ve got 38s in there on a “normal”700c rim. What’s the widest in 650b/wider 700c rim? -

A mate bought some new gen ≈£2500 carbon road wheels with ceramic bearings from a well known manufacturer, and after a 200km ride in the wet the hubs are grindy as hell. Previous wheels with DT Swiss hubs underwent similar treatment repeatedly, and didn’t have bearing issues for years.
I know it’s impossible to say without knowing the exact conditions, but would you reasonable folks consider it unlucky chance, a potential warranty issue, or expected wear and tear? I’d normally think it comes with the territory of riding in wet weather, but given the price point and better experience with previous wheels, I’d have also assumed these wheels would survive a ride without needing servicing or potentially repair. I realise a counterargument could be made that they’re performance wheels and should be serviced after an extended ride, but they evidently didn’t ‘perform’ for the length of the ride.

200km is less than many pro races. Bikes should be able to deal with many many hours of rain. Warranty job.
-
• #116666
Style over substance, those wheels are not fit for purpose.
-
• #116667
Yeah I agree it’s definitely worth a warranty claim.
Any wheel set that’s fucked after 200km, regardless of price, should be returned for warranty inspection. What brand are the hubs out of interest? Don’t be shy.

I've warrantied Zipp 303s on a couple of occasions, both less than a year old and with crunchy hub and/or cassette body bearings.
Half your 2k price mind, still would expect the bearings to last a bit longer given the replacement bearings are £70ish a pair and the freehub body c. £130.

What brand are the hubs out of interest?
To be confirmed.
Adjusted previous post to ≈£2500 instead of +£2500.Thanks leggy_blonde, Ben6899, TotalShanner and coventry_eagle for your replies.

I’m trying to help my Bro in law find some of these. Thread knackered so needs replacement. Anyone know where they could be found?

Can you not just use longer bolts and nuts?

Try the time trialling thread on here or timetriallingforum.co.uk, somebody might have some in their parts bin. I think Rob at https://www.floataero.com/ was using them before he upgraded to posh extensions, so he'd be worth a try too

Ah the joy seeing the funny bikes at the London Triathlon at the Excel last summer.
I did part of the elite race course without a number and yeah the bike pit was pretty impressive.
FWIW I'll contact 3T directly and see if they have anything knocking about.

Thanks so much everyone!
I strongly associate stuff like "went gym" or "go tesco" with working class Londoners, I've never heard it anywhere else. But I also think it's a younger person thing, none of the middle-aged, white collar, corporate cunts I know say it, so if you're old (sorry 😬) that might be why it seems new to you? Or maybe people just put on their best Standard English Voice in front of you so you don't get to hear all teh slangs.
I'm also Scottish and say "needs fixed" etc. Had no idea there were people about hearing it and thinking it strange, heh. Reminds me of the absolute bafflement of a coworker from Essex who didn't believe me when I said "you were" is a generally more accepted usage in English than "you was" - it's so pervasive in people of his background, it didn't even occur to him that most other people were saying something slightly different (we were writing a document, I don't habitually go about correcting people's dialect, honest).
