Aamer Anwar, a prominent human rights lawyer, called Braverman
“pathetic”. He added: "The Home Secretary knows exactly what she's
doing – scraping the gutter of racism, turning back the clock to the
1970’s and acting as a cheerleader for the far-right.“Golliwogs are nothing more than an ugly, nasty racist trope. The
police really should be asking Cruella – does she not have anything
better to do than jumping on yet another racist bandwagon?”Lawyer and activist Dr Shola Mos-Shogbamimu said Braverman “should be
prosecuted”.She tweeted: “Suella Braverman should be prosecuted for using her
position as Home Secretary to normalise racism. Golliwogs are racist
caricatures of Black people & display in a pub is a slap in face. I’ve
been called a golliwog.“It’s not only offensive, it’s objectively racist.”

Like, even Googling that publican's name would turn up he was warned 6 years ago for the same thing. Bloke's a racist prick.

That BBC article is the first I have seen that has mentioned the police. Hopefully there will be some prosecutions.

And here they go again...
Ryley denied that she or her husband were racist. “I’m not a racist in any form.” She confirmed that her husband had been photographed in a T-shirt from the far-right group Britain First. She said: “I don’t think Chris is a supporter of Britain First, he was just wearing that shirt because it was convenient at the time.”

Come on, we've all been there haven't we, what can you do when all your non racist t-shirts are in the wash?
-
• #81814
Those are some government level excuses.

government level excuses
Banked for the phrasebook.

I know it's a pointless comment to make but...
Let's say you don't think golliwogs are racist, you just think they're a charming historical toy, etc. Let's also say you don't see yourself as racist.
When people then tell you directly and via police complaints that they find golliwogs offensive and think they are racist, then why don't you just put them up in your living room, rather than displaying them in your pub and offending people?

Let's also say you don't see yourself as racist.
She isn't racist because she has been told not to be -
"She also denies that the word ‘wog’ is racist. She said: “I won’t use that word because I’ve been told not to. But I don’t find that offensive. " -
• #81818
Yeah. I mean what can you say?
If she's got enough cognitive ability to grasp that there are some things you shouldn't say maybe there's hope.

They’re using their own experience of what considered racist, rather than other’s live experience.
They simply refuse to make that connection due to privilege.
-
• #81825
Surely they refuse to make the connection because they're cunts?
I have privilege but I try my best to acknowledge it and use my brain and empathy to be better.
And that is a surprise? Worse was predicted and I hope petrol bombs is where it ends.
