Some very cheap frames on the Bird website for anyone on the lookout for a new bike.
£625 for an AM9 frame and shock is a bargain.

First ride on the new SS Moxie yesterday in Peaslake, doing all the hits. I had been worried I was building something a bit too nuts but everything came together and the bike quickly made so much sense. Had such an excellent morning riding.
It's mad long, so the cornering isn't exactly razor, but it proper flattens stuff out and the times I felt I'd gone wide, it just rode over and out. Also climbs so well - mega fun.
Just need to figure out how to get out to these trails more easily.

Yari makes so much sense for a hardcore hardtail. Really stiff and there's no need for posh expensive damper when the following rear wheel has 0mm travel.
I have upgraded to a luftkappe on mine though when I last had it serviced -

::googles luftkappe::
Oooh, "mid stroke support" "10mm shaft clamps" "Reduced hand fatigue".
I'm listening...

Think I've spotted a GT LTS 1000DS frame in there. They weren't very good then, and they're certainly really shit now, but it hasn't stopped me really wanting one

Good morning, has any one on here tried the Second City Divide? https://www.secondcitydivide.cc/
Can't see any posts about if but I have thought someone has some experience of it.
I'm looking at doing it May, Ive found people doing it in 5 days but I'm thinking of doing it in 4. (albeit to Wigan)
My rough plan is: I don't know if average KPH is wildly optimistic or not.
Day 1 Glasgow (Leave at 11:00 am) to Bothy @ Talla Linnfoots 130km
Night 1 Bothy 130km
9 hours cycling @ 15 kphFood - Abington General Store 96 km
Day two Bothy to Alston - 170km
10 hours at 17 kph
Night 2 Hostel 300km
https://alstonyouthhostel.co.uk/contact-us/Maybe Food - Church hall at 210 km
Emergency food at pull off at 211 km down to NewcastletonFood: Haltwhistle 280km Alston 300 km
Day 3 Alston to Ingleton - 136km
10 hours at 14 kph
Night 3 Ingleton 436 km
http://www.ingletonhostel.co.uk/Day 4 Ingleton to Wigan 135km
10 hours at 14 kph
Colne = 500kmThought very much appreciated (or pointers to somewhere better to ask for advice)

Did most of it the other way round but detoured just before Glasgow.
Will reply in a bit more detail later. But it's a stunning route. Some days were definitely tougher than others. I'll look back through Strava etc and see where we could've done a bit better.

I was in Chiang Mai this week- took a trip out to Doi Suthep where the downhill trails are. Can confirm it has plenty of elevation, but close to zero visibility due to Chiang Rai (next door province) burning their fields.
I’ll go back in July- October with the enduro bike.

OK, does that mean you had a tail wind, or is it changeable?
Did you camp or use hostels? -

Dropper post help:
I want to buy a dropper post, I’ve measured my bike and I can run any length travel. So how do I decide what length travel to buy? Do I want the seat to drop as low as possible?
I’m looking at getting a PNW Loam dropper post and the travel options range from 125-200mm.

Lower is almost always better, it's about getting the saddle as clear of your legs as possible when the bike is leant over. Go for the maximum possible drop as there's no downsides really

This. I did not do this and I have regrets. Get as much drop as possible.
Vigilantes caused much uproar in our local racing league with its "no mud tyres" rule. After a steward's inquiry, they were allowed as WTB's blurb doesn't explicitly mention mud, but they're pretty much spikes in all but name.
