I have had several Cannondales with this. The only ones it was a problem with was a Six13 which ended up cracking where the carbon met. But I’ve stripped several CAADS to bare aluminium and then polished it and it was mint. Needs polish regularly but they look awesome and no more worms.
About fifteen years ago I was quoted a mere $120 (I'm in Melbourne, Oz) to anodise an ally frame...
As long as there's no steel bits married to the frame, it's definitely the go IMO. Lighter (~0g!) and tougher than paint, and it's possible to do some pretty rad stuff with finishes and colour... This is a mock-up for the anodising job I was planning:
