It works well with First Direct because they give you a preview of direct debit and standing orders going out next working day, whilst my wife's account doesn't at all

Couple of months in, have a mettle business account and it's all good. No issues so far, and the app works well, would recommend.

HSBC offered me a global money account, with accompanying card - basically their plan to take Monzo and Revolut’s trousers down. I started using mine because it’s directly linked to my accounts, managed in one place etc etc.
Then HSBC security blocked it due to a transaction that I’d authorised in the iPhone app, but because I’d put a Singaporean SIM in my phone, had not responded to the text message they sent my UK number.
I used their webchat thing, and they said that I had to call (for my international/global money card) a UK number, with my UK SIM, at £2.05 a minute, to unblock the card. With my experience of the robot call routing this would be ~£30-£50 on call costs to say “yes it was me”, but there’s no way round it. So I just used my Revolut card for the next 90 days.
I then tried to pay for a plane ticket using my HSBC Mastercard and they blocked that as well - despite having authorised the payment in the app using MFA. Wankers.
So! Revolut has been super-handy, and I am glad I had it in reserve.

Free subscription to FreeAgent too, if you like that sort of thing

I wont want my enemy to use the HSBC app.
-
• #507
I started using it ages ago, the latest version is ok (in comparison).
Safe to say I won’t be using them for SG.

HSBC are shit, like most big banks I guess.
Revolut app is fucking bad but HSBC takes the cake by forcing you to log out to get the fucking codes to login to their website. Like, what the fuck? Just fucking prompt for another fingerprint or something you useless fucktards.

It would be great if authenticating twice with biometrics was considered ok, and didn’t require a follow up via SMS, also.
HSBC have been rubbish for the the month and a half I’ve been overseas

HSBC are shit for travel - they always blocked my cards. I use my two Revolut cards these days. The twin cards are great because I can leave one in my normal wallet and leave one in my cycling wallet.
I'm getting sick of 2FA so I might ditch my Amex just because it's a ballache to pay. I wonder if you can set direct debit for the full amount?
-
• #511
For Amex? Yes you can.
It can be a pain sometimes when some stores don’t accept it but we persevere for the avios as that’s getting us to Japan and back in business class -
• #512
Amex have always been fine for me when travelling
-
• #513
I don't remember ever seeing it. I'll have to have a poke around.
I was thinking of killing it off anyway, it's just £250/year and admin overhead for a couple of companion voucher free flights or whatever. If I could make the admin go away I might keep it. I don't use it much though. -
• #514
Same. I used it most of the way across America during Trans Am before realising "fuck this is a UK Amex you idiot, you don't just get free exchange rate doovawackies" and copped a bunch of fees for every gas station I'd used it in. Hence the Revolut for travel. Although they just posted some shit about fees and I've never done the maths to see if they do compare better or worse than Monzo etc so who fucking knows.

freeagent?
-

The promise of the HSBC Global Money card is fee-free, Mastercard (IIRC) exchange rate at time of purchase. Then HSBC fuck it up when you try to use it.
-
• #517
Yeah, I'd not even bother with them. They're happy to launder drug money but fuck up all my transactions and then bother me with KYC shit. Fuck HSBC.

Chase is the winner for overseas spending for me, 1% cashback, no fees, MasterCard exchange rate, app only.
Was using it though Curve, but they charge a fee for foreign purchases on free accounts now so I'll be using it direct.

Our fees are increasing when you:
Send money FROM EUR to any currency.
Send money TO GBP from any currency.Looks like an extra quid to send £1k to EUR1k

"Here at Revolut, we’ve been working hard to deliver faster, better, smarter products, serving over 45 million customers worldwide, and 9+ million customers in the UK alone. Today we’ve been authorised as a UK bank subject to restrictions, an important step towards launching our bank to customers in the UK.
What does this mean?
Now we enter a “mobilisation” period, a common regulatory stage for many new banks. During this period, we’ll complete the setup of our banking processes before starting to operate as a bank in the UK." -
• #522
The mobilisation route is optional.
Mobilisation enables new banks to secure further investment, recruit staff, invest in IT systems and commit to third-party suppliers etc due to them being an authorised bank. Mobilisation is therefore for firms to complete the build out of the bank, including the processes, people and systems and is not to be seen as the stage to commence these developments.
During mobilisation, we limit the amount of total deposits that a new bank can accept to a total of £50,000.
Mobilisation could take as little as a few months but cannot continue indefinitely and should take no longer than 12 months. A Variation of Permission application for banks to exit mobilisation shall be required to be made at least three months prior to the expiration of the 12 month mobilisation period to allow sufficient time for the regulatory assessment. -

Hello, hoping for some advice.
Am looking for a card that I can create unique card numbers for transactions on temu, Ali etc so if my details are sold the numbers have no money in.
Would also like a card to use in the EU or fee free to shop in the eu.
Thanks for the advice.
-
• #524
Revolut does both, you create a one time use disposable card for online transactions. I use Revolut for eu travelling as you get the interbank conversion rates which save me a bunch each time as well as fee free ATM withdrawals up to a certain amount (if you pay for a monthly plan you can withdraw more)

Thank you
Is there a friend scheme where you can benefit from me joining?
This sounds good! I'm going to do the same thing right now
