Will this work? XT HT2 cranks.. 8 speed chain....

Dolan track frame and various old parts laying around.

I can fit a max 38T narrow wide to the crank. So 38:16... would this new/old stock [edit 9spd] chain work/be strong enough?

Downsides? I'd need to space out the BB/cranks and I'd be crap on a fast flat road....

Thoughts?

The gear is quite low. Smaller sprocket maybe?

I think so, as long as the sprocket/freewheel isn't 1/8"

Do you want a cheap set of Shimano road chainset instead with a 42T narrow wide chainring?
