  • Any recommendations for a tap timer thing to set a sprinkler off for 5 minutes each day?

Don't need anything complicated with loads of schedules but obviously will be left unattended so need something that won't leak and is reliable. Seems to be a huge variation in prices for them, I'm ideally looking at the cheaper end.

  • Screw fix Titan range of kit gives good bang per buck as they say...

  • Surely they've invented an irrigation system you can operate by phone by now?

  • Cheers, thinking about it my sprinkler is Titan and that seems fine. Free delivery is up to £50 now though which is a fair bit more than previously.

There seem to be plenty of wifi ones but they definitely don't tick the cheaper end box.

  • I'm excited, never grown these from seed.

The slugs are also excited 😆

  • Not sure exactly what this is but it impressed me.

  • Palm tree. Date not coconut.

  • I'm trying out a new slug defence. Get copper scourers and unravel them, cut into rings and put over shoots.

  • How big is that planter/pot 😂

  • I didn't plant this hosta, was a gift from a squirrel so it is a bit out of place!

  • There’s a house in clapton with one of these either side of the front door, pretty much conceals the whole front of the house and half of next doors.

  • Specifically a canary island palm, always loved them but the growing tip in the centre needs protection from frost when young and they require a bit of maintenance (sawing off lower stems which are spiny af)

  • I love the one on the roundabout at the south end of Horseferry / North end of Lambeth bridge.

  • I made the mistake a few years ago of filling a raised bed with the poor quality topsoil created when I dug a base for our greenhouse. It’s been OK for flowers and spuds but crap for carrots and salad so I spent a very satisfying hour yesterday seiving out all the lumps and stones to use it as a seed bed. 🤞
    Twee slate labels because kids.

  • Thanks!

For now everything the sluggies can eat is on a table on the paving area, exposed area and having to climb up is too much for them it seems.

Can they not just stick to the compost heap, no no, it must be war :p

  • Ha, very apposite for my username.

  • A while ago someone on here put a picture of their back garden and it had a garden path with really thin patio pieces. Can some put the picture on again please

  • Not mine but a couple of forumers have done a path with concrete gravel boards

  • Thanks, it was hench. Looked amazing.

  • The keyword here and in the other various home & design threads you want is "gravel boards".

  • think I found it as I saved it for inspiration too

  • That’s the badger! Thanks

  • Does anyone have any experience of using thyme as a lawn substitute?

I'm not sure why I'm asking about a lawn substitute, as I actually want a small square of it to break up a patio a bit like:

In particular any specific experience of varieties - I've had a search but wondered how it had faired irl - getting too big, too woody when you've controlled it, higher than you expected etc.

  • Bit of light pruning
