What a fantastic project, would love a Muddy Fox!

Run into an issue with the rear mech. As you can see in the lowest gear it’s only a couple cm away from the spokes. I can barely fit my finger in between. I’ve set the high, low and b screw and also straightened out the hanger. Do I need a shorter mech or will it sit further once the chain is on?

Shouldn't be any issue with that, plenty space and yeah the chain will pull the whole thing down, especially in that gear.

Have you clamped that bmx stem onto a threaded steerer? Or did you cut the threaded section off the steerer tube? What was the solution there in the end?

Secured a quill stem adaptor into the steerer with a with a sf nut in the top and stem is clamped to that

First test ride out today and feels great. Having to get used to a wider grip as I’m so used to my narrow bars on the fixed gear :).

Edit: Just got home and honestly I'm surprised at how smooth everything went. The highest gear (11-32) was actually nippy I wasn't expecting that. I haven't ridden a geared bike for many many years so it felt brilliant. The SLX shifter is super crisp and snappy and had no trouble moving through the gears. Only quibble is the brakes were a bit jumpy and squeaky.. @Tijs suppose that answers your question. Hoping after some wear they will settle down a bit

Completely forgot about the amazing custom feed bag @Valentina made me a while back! I'll be testing this out properly in a few weeks but I love it. All the bags are beautifully made, customised to how you want them and she uses recycled inner tubes too! I went for the camo, purple, green and black to match the theme of the bike.

-Cargo net and bungee cords from eBay £8

Rear rack needed some diy’ing as the only frame mount is for a mudguard I assume on the underside of the frame in the centre. Easy fix just bent one of the mount arms to shape.

Just waiting for a Muddy Fox Explorer from the late 80s.....
Did most Muddy Fox frames of the era have 130mm rear spacing and 68mm BB?
What year did MTBs convert to 135mm rear hubs and 73mm BB?

I can’t answer your question I’m afraid but since I’m here it’s maybe worth mentioning my 92 courier comp had a JIS headset, so that’s one to watch out for.

Rear hub was a Shimano 105 fh-5800, which I believe is 130mm, again can't fully remember sorry couldn't be more help

I got the frame. 68mm BB. 130mm dropouts. JIS headset.
