• We're keen tandem tourists and, while we rarely flat, it's still a huge pain in the arse when we do.

We currently use a pair of 38mm-wide Panaracer GravelKing SS Plus tyres. They aren't the best tyres on the planet, but suit our needs well, and have only flatted two times in 3,000km+ of touring. That doesn't sound very impressive, but bear in mind we're riding with probably 50kg of luggage and two riders.

Both punctures were due to sharp objects entering the centre of the tread.

I'm going to (finally) add a big glug of sealant to each tube before May's tour, but I'm considering trying some kind of tyre liner too.

BRR's test is, as always, very informative, but I'm looking for real-world insight from those who have used these for touring.

Did they add an appreciable amount of protection or, as everyone warns, do they actually pinch the tube?

FWIW, we rode with Continental Contact Plus tyres for years, which never flatted, but they felt horrible, particularly on long gravel sections (a regular feature of our tours). I'd also rather not swap tyres just before a tour.
