  • They'll do nicely, thanks @MCamb : )

  • Teravail rampart vs ultra dynamic cava JFF - which 650 road tyre?

  • I like Kojak slicks for 26ers on the road. Can't really comment on grip but if I was carrying kids I'd probably not be trying to rail corners so grip isn't much of a factor. Let some air out of whatever you end up with for bigger contact patch = cheap grip.

  • If you're after red 26ers or grey 650B tyres...

Why couldn't they make the 650B in red. That would look fucking gash on my Tripster so I definitely want one.

  • Dumb question but I can't find a consistent answer. Whats the max recommended tyre width in relation to rim width?

Using 45c on 21mm/29.5mm rims should be fine, especially when running with tubes at reasonable pressures?

Manufacturer recommends 28c-40c but I'm guessing they're cautious and that refers to tubeless.

  • It wasn't uncommon to put 2.5" on 17mm MTB rims internal not all that long ago. At sensible pressures I wouldn't worry about it

  • Using 45c on 21mm/29.5mm rims should be fine

    Definitely

  • Terreno Dry front and rear or Dry front and Zero rear?
I decided on these as I got a good deal, need them in 700x47c size for my Sutra LTD, both road and gravel riding and also some gravel ultra events planned for later this year. I know they roll basically the same, just saw some reports of Dry wearing out on the rear quickly and considering Zero on rear because of that.

  • Dry does wear quite quickly but they are a great tyre. Zero actually rolls slower but corners better on tarmac as it doesn't have side knobbles.

  • You don't really need the side knobs in the rear, won't make much difference. I'd take whichever have more rubber in the center

  • I’m doing the Great British Escapade - 480km North and South Downs in June.

Rigid hardtail is currently set up 27.5+ Nobby Nics which have to go as they’re too slow on tarmac. Originally planned to go 29er with a racier XC set up (2.25 Mezcal/Barzo) but I’d need a new wheelset - and I also need some other bits like a very good light and maybe aero bars.

Just found out they make 27.5 2.8in G Ones Allround which could work for the terrain and conditions - and I wouldn’t have to buy new wheelset.

Any thoughts on how much grip I’m going to need in June and which to go for?

  • I'd go 29 Mezcal, could be loose in places and not sure how good fat slicks would be.

  • Looks like a nice event. The white horse in Graffham is a great pub as well.

  • They make 27.5 mezcals.

  • Yeah I saw, my only concern was fitting a regular 27.5 tyre might mess up the geometry on a 27.5+/29 frame.

Although they do make a 27.5 Mezcal in 2.6 which might be a good compromise geometry wise 🤷

  • Sidewall cut, couldn't seal it, walk home for me this morning. Nice while they lasted though.

  • Has anyone tried the all-black Panaracer Paselas? I really like the tanwall the new and was wondering if the black wall ones offered the same (or very similar) ride quality with a bit more puncture protection on the sidewalls.

  • They're a little heavier (due to being steel bead rather than folding), but ride feel isn't too dissimilar in 28 and 32 (ran both widths in folding and steel bead).
They're also a good bit cheaper.

  • Thanks, they seem to do both the amber and black wall versions in folding and steel bead, so I'm not sure that's the distinction between them. There also seems to be an "urban" version on sale in some places, but that may just be old stock.

  • Ok, if you can get black folding, go for them.

Edit: Panaracer website only shows black available in 2 wired versions.

  • My question is really whether the black walled versions ride differently from the tanwall versions. I'd probably not bother to spend the extra for folding ones, but want to check that the black ones have the same supple feel as the tanwall ones.

  • I've used both (years ago though) and couldn't tell the difference between the two.

  • If anyone has a (thread favourite) Pirelli Cinturato Velo 32mm knocking about they want to let go for cheap, please shoot me a pm!
Thought there might be good chance someone here has one considering how much everyone recommends them..

  • Want to get some new tyres for the BMC... I've had Corsa Controls in the past and liked them... anyone had experience with Challenge Stradas?

  • I might have some 27.5 XC tyres at home, unused as they were too big for when my gravel bike was my xc bike. Won't be able to check until next week though. Pretty sure there's some Vittoria in the collection.
