I quite fancy a silver top loading CD player, and a used second gen Rega Planet or first gen Apollo look like they'd fit the bill. Does anyone have any experience of these, anything I need to be aware of ?

Depending on how much height you can lose, you can get good results with an air gap ie mounting the trap away from the hard surface.
The wall/ceiling is a null point, so there’s more energy to absorb if you can move away from it. -

Speaker grilles coming along nicely... should be done by Sunday.
Just need oiling and the brass mesh placed between the two walnut layers and sandwiched in (dampened by speaker foam tape).

Have the cats actually been going for the cones? Ours thankfully ignores my Tannoys. He did put his claws in the grill cloth at first but I prefer them without the grills anyway so everyone’s happy.

Yes, actual claws touched cones and a small nik in one... but then he went back repeatedly to try again as to him it sounds like cardboard which he loves.
Cost to replace cones: 1/2 the cost of a single speaker and extraordinary wait times and hassle.
Cost to cat proof speakers behind brass mesh in a custom walnut housing by a carpenter: 1/10 the cost of a single speaker and done fairly quickly (once a carpenter was found) and I love the look it will produce. -

Ah yeah I’m sure they’ll look amazing, shame the twins are so into the cones!

I had no idea that ethernet cables were directional ...

Imagine my surprise - i didn't even realize that different categories of cable could affect the digital raw signal enough to produce a difference in sound!
It's always the most expensivest bits of wire that sound "better" too - who'd have thunk it

Seriously thought about it.

You wouldn't, you monster.

I'm sure someone without nice speakers would take a lovely cat that destroys things.
But the thought only flashed through my mind, I quickly settled on further cat proofing.

I can recommend some seriously bass heavy tracks that might traumatise the cat enough to leave the cones alone.
Leave the cones alone sounds like a good title for a song.

One reason to go for ATC was the pa system style metal covers. Definitely cat proof.

If you put that on your cat you deserve to go to hell.

It was a quick pic as I was literally rushing to leave when they got delivered. I'll take better ones when I'm back. The brass mesh is really shiny and nice but the pic doesn't show it at all.

Beautiful!
I know that they won’t look like mine, just thinking maybe a similar vibe.
