Fair point...but i'm extending downward and the braze on is in the way :/

So smaller chainring then - try a band-on MTB front mech, quite a few have the band-on attachment low down relative to road mechs, I've managed to squeeze one in below an existing braze-on before...?

Ok, so i'm finishing up a Rourke road bike build...upgraded the cranks from a standard 105 crankset (big chainring 52t) to a praxis m30 (big chainring 48t) so the fd is about 2 to 3 millis short from ideal chainring clearance...The situation is like this:
