  • Next you'll be telling me Marzocchi still make Bombers

  • It is very unlikely that anything will sell out in the next 6 months. Almost every bike brand and shop has more stock than they know what to do with now and will be trying to shift it. I would expect to see more sales coming up for new bikes and wouldn't be surprised if some 'soon to be realeased' bikes are delayed to allow old stock to sell first.

  • Thanks, was thinking along those lines.
Brand new at 20 percent off end of march is quite something. Guess that especially the big retailers are in desperate need of cash flow.
But going to konstruktif bike fair has strangely put me off buying a new bike anyway.
Will rent a habit and see if smiles/€ makes sense. Fully is a bit like car in my situation, the few times I "need" one I can probably just rent.

Good move. modern MTBs are a pita to live with.

  • Haha. The reason I have the stooge is all the service shock every 2 hours stuff really puts me off.

Agree that gets old quick. Nice to ride, shitty to own. Like modern cars.

  • when the sensible thing to do with lots of money around 2006 was to buy a turner (not that i was ever either that rich or sensible) there was always someone on an ellsworth - with their huge rocker arms they looked like grass hoppers.

  • Got a good deal on a GX AXS upgrade kit. Can I use my XTR M9120 crankset/chainring with a 12 speed eagle chain?

  • yes, I am using Raceface affect with some 12 sp chain from wiggle

  • Great. Ordered a GX cassette and X01 chain.

  • I suppose since you’ve already ordered it’s a bit late saying this now…
A shimano 12 speed hyperglide cassette, chain and chainring is the best combo to use with the AXS rear mech.
I have this hybrid on both my bikes. The shifting on the eagle cassette isn’t great, it’s a bit clunky compared to the Shimano hyperglide stuff.

Edit - I’m guessing you probably already have a 12 speed shimano cassette and chain, if you do, you can compare for yourself..

  • I’m running the same setup on two bikes and it works well- Shimano chain, cassette and crank, AXS mech.

  • I have even used it on aliexpress cassette, worked fine

  • Fine=exactly the same as “hyper glide plus super/hyperbole” when changing under load?

  • it was actually on the turbo as I couldnt find microspline freehub for it! putting MTB on turbo was a bad idea in many ways but it shifted fine.

  • I need to sell my V220d camper, fully set up for taking (XL) mountain bikes wherever you want in great comfort, then sleeping there when you arrive.

  • £2.50

and I'll throw in my Scooby

  • Yeh, I'd read that but GX cassettes are cheaper and I have a XD freehub. So it will be all Eagle apart from the XTR crankset.

This is an upgrade from 11 speed deore!

  • Sunrace makes HG compatible 12 speed cassette btw

  • Can the Scooby fit in a suitcase?

  • With a bit of effort, sure.

  • Anyone tried Vittoria Mazzas? Fancy some new tyres and bored of the Maxxis stuff on my bike. Might put a Martello on the back as I'm becoming fed up of the complete inability of the current Rekon to deal with mud.

Also Vittoria relatively cheap and I've always liked their road tyres.

  • If you’re up for trying something different/new. I’ve been really impressed with the WTB Verdict/Vigilante combo I’m running on my Bfe Max.
Prefer them to the Maxxis I’ve got on the Capra.
The WTBs are on various sites for a fair bit under rrp

  • Youngest inherited Bontragers on his new bike and really happy with them. Life beyond Minions!

How are your WTBs in rooty slippy mud (which seems to be unavoidable in the West of Scotland)?

  • I’m in South Wales so they’re pretty unavoidable here too and they’ve been giving me plenty of confidence*.

*wettest March in years, 200% of rainfall.

As they’re on a hardtail I went with the dual ply casing as well.
